How do you switch off an iPhone?

Aren't those darned devices supposed to be pretty invincible? Including waterproof-ish...

Now, I won't start associating them with coughroaches (i.e. could survive a nuclear explosion), but....

Notice Mal didn't say 'all mobile phones' but singled out those made by one company. Would be a shame to be in that hall when your Blackberry / Nexus / WinPho starts chiming or crashing. :p

I'm not sure what the fuss is about - as you pointed out in your detailed post anat0l, mobile phones or calculators are capable of storing information and executing calculations which are not appropriate for examinations in any non-computational or mathematical disciplines (and in those cases their functionality may have to be strictly limited). On the other hand, pagers and mobile phones also have the capacity to be disruptive, so should also be switched off.

Expecting people not to bring them is unrealistic (particularly when exam halls are not exactly easy to get to) and to cloak them amongst another 1000-odd devices is asking for trouble. So asking for them to be completely switched off under proper invigilation and penalty of being kicked out is a pretty reasonable compromise. :)

Not even close. One iPhone of ours was killed by our little guy who kept grabbing it and putting it in his mouth...

My iPhone has a massive smash mark on the glass where it was dropped, and the glass cracked. It still works perfectly though.

(lol, ok not my iPhone - someone I saw yesterday had one like that!).

I must have seen the same guy;) iphone was smashed but still rang and he could still use the phone functions.

Tough little buggers.

Aanatol, get an actor to come into the exam. After 2 minutes, make sure his/her phone rings.Race up to the actor and grab him/her by the scruff of the neck and start pushing the actor out of the room with the following script

Anatol - "GET OUT OF HERE, YOU'RE DISQUALIFIED"
Actor - "Its my sick mother in hospital"
Anatol - "I DON"T CARE, YOUR OUT. RULES ARE RULES"

That should get all the phones turn off in a hurry.

PS.trying to visualize you in that role, hhhmmmm somehow don't think it fits you.

Haha;:lol: and I thought Straitman was our resident comedian.

Maybe you would be better in the role as Anat0l.

So Anat0l becomes the poor student and you are the phone police. :p
