For me, as I travel for business mostly, its a place to get some food on the run, thus being at least semi healthy as opposed to some trashy junk food in an airport food court.
Its a chance to take stock, check some e-mails, gather my thoughts on either the day ahead or the day that has been, generally unwind if it is the latter.
somewhere where I can plane spot, daydream away and enjoy the fact that life is pretty damn good.

In a more light hearted way;
Consider it a bit of a refuge from the great unwashed, those heading to Bali, end of season football trip yobbos and other assorted persons who clearly DKWIA. :P

amaroo, by sheer fluke I get to indulge in the SYD flounge tomorrow during the late arvo. First time i think that I will have been after midday. I will enjoy.

Cheers to you.....would enjoy being there with you.

I do work if I have to, but usually, I can sit around, relax, and have a drink (or 10). I also have the habit of making a phone call or 2, hopefully before the alcohol sets in. :shock:

I can't recall the last work funded flight I've had (although the ato does pick up a few) so I'd say my lounge time is purely mine.

I relax, check emails and surf the internet. I eat, I drink. Sometimes ill print something out on the printers or use the chargers. Normally I'm just wasting time before my flight.

I always look out for plat ones in the lounge and bow down for them as I know (domestically) they are better than me.

If departing from home (whether work or leisure) or from "away" (for leisure), I tend to prefer to minimise time spent at airport, including airline lounges, and that typically means only 10-15 mins in the lounge, which is just enough for a quick drink and snack and maybe chance to catch my breath. If travelling for work and I have an hour or more there it really depends on my mood, how much I need to catch up on, etc. I tend to catch up emails that might need attention, fire off summaries/actions from my trip, etc, but all over a glass of something and a few snacks. During long haul transits I like showering, but wouldn't normally use the lounge showers for single sector journeys unless I've been out in the heat.

I use the lounges to relax before a flight away from crowds but sometimes the lounge can be worse than the terminal. I hate noise and constant loud laughter and people talking loudly on their mobile phones annoys the hell out of me.

I thought it was possible to conduct a conversation in a civilised manner but I mist wrong. And I must be extremely selfish as well expecting a quiet environment.

Most of my flying is international long haul. As such, I tend to work on the outbound trip, so the lounge before that flight is about setting myself up for that work (eat, printing etc). It's hard to be out of contact with the office while on the 24 hour or longer flights, so the lounge is an opportunity to get a few emails out that I drafted on the plane, and prepare for the next leg. So for me, business facilities are critical to me having a good day! Having said that, on the inbound leg, I'm usually wrecked from a long trip with a short turnaround (often I'll be in my destination for around 48 hours, so I often spend as much time travelling as I do on the ground) so I'm usually collapsed in a lounge seat somewhere. Showers are good when transferring flights, as is a hot meal.

I don't mind that others are relaxing - good on them! If you can work in an open plan office then a lounge is nothing to fear.
