How does Accor treat you as an Elite guest?

Property: ibis Styles Jakarta Airport
Status: Accor Plus Platinum
Room booked: Family Suite
Room upgraded/type: No, already top category
Rate: Accor Plus Flexible ($75pn++)
Free internet: Yes
Free Breakfast? Yes but didn't partake
Early check in/late out: N/A
Welcome drink: Redeemed for some bottles of sparkling water
Welcome gift: All branded cake in room, free private transfers

One night stay connecting between a QF DSC cash ticket and another itinerary (IYKYK!)

The property isn't far from CGK but definitely not walking distance with luggage. We'd planned to catch a Grab to/from the hotel, but I was contacted via WhatsApp on the day of arrival offering a private complimentary airport pickup. The car wasn't anything fancy, but fine for the 1-2km drive.

The room itself was fine, nothing to write home about. The bed was fine for 1 night. Aircon worked well but wasn't silent.

Pool area in the middle of the property adorned with a Accor Live Limitless sign 😂

At check-in we were offered the same private transfer back to the airport for our departure. I asked, and was told this was a complimentary service for Accor Plat and Diamond only - everyone else can use the (fairly infrequent) shuttle bus. It saved us $15 or so in Grabs - so a tangible benefit.

Great value considering the rate.
Currently at this hotel flying later today.

As Accor Gold:
- room upgrade (I think just a high floor - booked Superior Room with B’fast).
- automatic late check out to 4pm (my flights 6:30pm so that’s great!)
- free private transfer to the airport (note a Grab would be $2.20 plus tip).

I couldn’t find the shuttle nor received info on transfers prior to arrival. Somehow the Grab from the airport came in at $20 (I think there was a min fee for Grab Premium).

Anyway, a good airport hotel option if doing CGK onto Europe or the US. Staying here again on the way home and also for a trip over Xmas / New Year.

Property: Novotel Florianopolis, Brazil
Status: Accor Platinum
Room Rate: Advanced Saver Rate - Bed and Breakfast - 452.78 BRL/night ($122 AUD/night)
Room booked: Standard Room with 1 Queen Sized Bed
Room upgraded/type: Higher Floor?
Early check in/late out: Not needed.
Welcome drink: Not provided
Welcome gift: Kinder Bueno and agua

Was travelling to Brazil and saw that Accor had a Novotel near where I needed to be so booked it for three nights. Arrived at the hotel late at night (i.e. 1:30 AM) but check-in was a breeze. Didn't manage to take many photos but it was your typical Novotel hotel. Nothing to write home about but fairly modern (including international plugs at most outlets meaning I didn't need to use my power plug adaptor).

Welcome gift was underwhelming but I suppose it's better than nothing:

The rate I booked included breakfast (since this property is outside of Asia meaning I can't use my free breakfast perk as a Platinum). The breakfast was very nice, certainly better than the breakfast offerings at most Accor properties in Australia:

Overall, a solid hotel and one I would consider staying at the next time I'm in the region.

Property: Novotel Montreal Airport
Status: Accor Platinum
Room booked: Superior room with king-size bed, for 2 people - $292 CAD/night ($321/night)
Room upgraded/type: Higher floor?
Early check in/late out: Not asked or offered
Welcome drink: Yes 2. One was requested at check-in (wasn't offered initially) but also received another one in welcome letter in room.
Welcome gift: Novotel water bottle, socks and sunchips

Booked this hotel as I originally had an early morning flight out of YUL and needed to be near the airport to catch the flight. Additionally, my AmEx Platinum card had an offer where I would get a $50 statement credit upon spending $250 or more at Accor properties in Canada. I also thought (incorrectly) that there would be a free shuttle taking me to the airport as that is a common thing at airport hotels in North America.

Check-in was relatively quick with although the check-in agent was unaware of the Accor loyalty program (i.e. no recognition of being a Platinum and I had to request a drink voucher after mentioning I'm Platinum. The receptionist also mentioned there would be chips in my room). The hotel itself is not bad, there is a pool and exercise facility. Additionally, the rooms seem fairly modern and don't suffer from the follies found at other Accor properties (namely the dreaded shub):

One nice thing about the hotel is the manager seems to have realized that it is kind of a big deal for a Platinum to be staying at an Accor property in Canada given how few there are in Canada and the US (indeed most of my colleagues who travel there have status with Hilton or maybe Marriott given their presence) and provided a number of nice gifts:

Overall, would I stay here again? Probably not at that price. Even if I were to discount the $50 statement credit (i.e. now it costs $242 accounting for the statement credit) that's still quite a bit for an airport hotel, particularly one where you now need to pay for an Uber to get you to the airport (which added an extra $25 to the cost).

Decided to visit SF for a couple of days with my partner. Originally, I was thinking of staying near the airport, but ended up postponing our flight back to SYD and so it made sense to stay in the downtown (also my partner really wanted to see all the attractions of SF). Did some checking around and amazingly Accor had what I think is a very good rate on a property in downtown SF (that price included all taxes and fees).

The hotel itself is located on Powell Street near Market Street in Union Square. In other words it's not in a sketchy part of the city (i.e. Civic Centre). Additionally, the hotel had some good reviews and since it's an Accor property I expected it to be better than the usual Comfort Inn or Motel 6 I stay at in SF.

The (upgraded) room was very modern and spacious. There were no foul odours and one of the things I appreciated about the hotel is it's chic. It's not the cookie cutter style you tend to find at a Novotel or ibis. It has a character to it.
IMG_2371.jpeg
The bathroom was also nice and didn't have the dreaded shub:

IMG_2759.jpeg

In terms of hotel amenities like a gym or pool, sadly there wasn't any. There also didn't appear to be a hotel restaurant, which isn't a huge deal since SF has a number of great restaurants.

The welcome gift here was a delicious chocolate cake which my partner (who has more discerning tastes than I do) agreed was indeed of good quality and tasty:
IMG_2375.jpeg

At check-in I was given two vouchers for a signature coughtail of my choice at the nearby Bartlett Hall. In addition, there were two vouchers in the room for a craft beer at the nearby bar as well. Ultimately, I ended up using one of the vouchers on a coughtail:
IMG_2757.jpeg

One thing I noticed whilst heading to my room was this notice:
IMG_2704.jpeg
Fortunately, it seems that when they say the water would be turned off, they meant the hot water (which as a Canadian isn't a huge deal).

I did not request early check in as we were arriving into SF around 8 PM. However, on the day of checkout, I visited the front desk to see if I could get the 11 AM standard check out pushed back. They asked what time, and I suggested 1 PM. They obliged without any pushback whatsoever. Now that's refreshing!

One thing I wasn't expecting was they couldn't hold our luggage when we did check out (as we were hoping to do some last minute exploring before heading to SFO to catch our late night UA flight back to SYD). They did suggest a luggage storage facility across the road which charges $8/bag, but we didn't see the point in doing that so just headed back to the airport early and spent the balance of our time at the Polaris lounge.

I would not hesitate to stay at this property again should I be in the SF Bay Area (particularly if I need to be downtown), particularly if it is at this rate. It's a good quality hotel with character, something that is a rarity especially stateside.

Property: Pullman Melbourne City Centre
Status: Accor+ Platinum
Room Rate: Red Hot Room $231/night
Room booked: Superior Room King Bed
Room upgraded/type: Not offered, when I asked, the response was “we’re full tonight”.
Free breakfast?: Yes, good breakfast in EL.
Early check in/late out: Early check in denied, late check out granted till 1pm but needed to re-key card next morning.
Welcome drink: Yes, house wine or beer at bar.
Welcome gift: Some chocolate slices.

Overall, I’m not sure how I feel about this hotel. I think that at $231, it’s a solid option - in particular, the room was big and the location was very good (right next to Emporium).

I think the soft product could be improved. For example:
  • There was only one person at check in (there is no priority line). Check in took 30 minutes as a result.
  • I asked if my room was ready at 12.30pm. I was told that they will try to get it ready by 1pm, otherwise 2pm at the latest. It was not ready by 2.30, and they gave me a different room instead.
  • Some amenities were missing from my room. It took housekeeping around 2 hours to come by and refill them.
  • They forgot my welcome gift until later.
  • I was granted late check-out, but I was asked to re-key my room card the next morning as “sometimes, late check-outs do not go through in our system”.
A lot of these complaints are minor, and in no way were they so bad that I’d file a complaint. However, I would expect better from a Pullman - I’ve had better at an Ibis!

One last note: if you are sensitive to sound, the rooms that face Swanston St leak a lot of the sound from buskers in the street.

Some photos of the room:

Property: Mercure Spring Hill Brisbane
Status: Accor+ Signature Gold
Room booked: Superior Balcony Room for $84.50
Room upgraded/type: Yes - Deluxe High Floor Balcony Room (level 9 of 10)
Early check in/late out: not offered, not required
Welcome drink: Yes x 2. Not dated. Useful for future stays
Welcome gift: A bottle of wine (De Bortoli Legacy Shiraz), 4 x water, fruit platter and card

Had a Sunday to Monday stay and will have another Tuesday to Wednesday stay today. Expect the same but shall update if different. Today's stay will get me back to Platinum. No photos because too lazy.

Edit: turns out level 10 is a convention space so last stay was top floor. Tonight’s checkin only netted floor 5. Only one drink voucher and no wine. Fruit platter was previously chopped up, just whole fruits today. However, 2 x waters were of the sparkly San Pellegrino variety tonight. Mixed bag I guess.

Property: Mercure Southbank Melbourne

Room Rate: Flexible Rate, part paid with points
Room booked: Superior Queen
Room upgraded/type: King room on top floor
Early check in/late out: Not needed.
Welcome drink: Available at bar, house beer/wine
Welcome gift: Small box of chocolates

One of the "value" Accor options in Melbourne's CBD, room was reasonably comfortable though bathroom definitely due for a refresh (visible crack in toilet bowl, worn tiles, old showerhead). Not a huge fan of connecting rooms in general and this had doors on both sides which seemed odd. Was fine for a one night stay, bed in particular gave a good night's sleep. Going rate for breakfast was $50, which I declined. Hotel website needs to update their restaurant opening hours (currently states breakfast only), I didn't dine there but it seemed to also be open for lunch and dinner.

Your breakfast should have been free as an ALL Platinum member, no?

Property: Canberra Sebel Civic
Status: Accor Gold Plus
Room Rate: Corporate booking system
Room booked: Standard King
Room upgraded/type: Not mentioned, maybe a higher floor?
Early check in/late out: Not needed
Welcome drink: Half-size bottle of red or white wine, no beer or non-alc option
Welcome gift: none

Decent hotel in a good location, always love it when the King is a proper king, or at least has a proper mattress topper so you can’t tell it’s two singles combined.

Also had the option to skip housekeeping for sustainability reasons and accrue an additional 200 ALL points per day instead, which I appreciate.

Not much to write home about on the ALL Status front, but would stay again for the comfort and convenience.

Looks a bit more modern than the Novotel there. What's the breakfast like?

It was definitely better than the Novotel overall.
There was no breakfast to speak of and tbh since I don’t have plat status I didn’t ask.
There was a cafe next door which might have done something but I’m not sure and didn’t go there as there were other better rated options around.

In another thread @Danger had asked for a review of Ibis Auckland Airport.

I’ve cut/pate it here as a reference for anyone considering it.

We arrived just on midnight at around the same time as three other flights so there were plenty of people around.

Below is the route I took.

It is well lit but once I passed the car park with the purple P symbol, there were no other people around.

However, it’s the main road into the international terminal and there were plenty of cars.

I never felt unsafe.

IMG_4141.jpeg

The Ibis is as you’d expect and in good condition.

I’ve stayed in far worse for $120 per night.

IMG_4026.jpeg

IMG_4028.jpeg

IMG_4029.jpeg

Pros: full blackout blinds, no noise from outside, great water pressure even on the top floor, quiet aircon, red light on TV was the only light when the room was dark (no flashing smoke detectors etc.

Cons: no power/charging by the bed, so devices need to be left on the small table overnight, soft and saggy pillows (personal preference), it’s a tight space generally.

The hotel has a few other things going in its favour.

Not part of the hotel, but on the ground floor is a cafe.

IMG_4031.jpeg

And on the ground floor behind the hotel another cafe and a sushi train.

IMG_4033.jpeg

The Ibis is also directly opposite Woolworths.

IMG_4032.jpeg

This is handy if you want to self-cater because the ibis has a communal dining area next to reception.

There’s plates, cutlery, a microwave, toaster and coffee machine.

IMG_4035.jpeg

IMG_4036.jpeg

The hotel does not participate in Accor despite all the signs that would indicate otherwise.

Only downside after a late night was waking to the jackhammering in the lift which echoed up the lift shaft through the building.

IMG_4041.jpeg

Would I stay again?

Yes, especially because by delaying pick up of the hire car to the following morning saved more than the room cost.

Stayed at Sebel Civic for two nights a few weeks ago (non-elite, but it got me two of the three nights for gold through the Qantas fast track, and I've got 20 nights through Accor Plus).

The hotel restaurant (Our Place on London) closed a few months ago, so when I stayed there a couple of months ago (after buying the breakfast package), we were given a voucher to Capital Grind, a cafe across the street. Their breakfast was fine (no more) but you may as well go a la carte.

As for the hotel itself, the accommodation was fine but there were several little niggles. One was the parking situation where you have to park in the Canberra Centre a few minutes away (and where they didn't proactively give me a validation voucher on the first day, meaning I got slugged full whack), and there wasn't much storage in the bathroom.

So yeah, it gets a 'meh' from me...

I have used it a few times over the years, most recently early this year with a 1240am arrival. While i have often walked with earlier arrivals, at that time of the night I used the yellow bus (NZD8 one way).

Property: Ibis Paris CDG
Status: ALL Silver
Room Rate: ALL App (Eur 195)
Room booked: Family room, flexible, bed and breakfast
Room upgraded/type: Largest room already, top floor
Early check in/late out: Not needed.
Welcome drink: Yes (2)
Welcome gift: no
When: June 2024

This was booked as we arrived late into CDG and with two kids in tow didn’t feel like trekking into Paris especially if flight was late (which it wasn’t in the end). It also had the advantage of being substantially cheaper than in town options that we’d arrive into at almost midnight…..

After the typical CDG scrum of baggage collection, and a little confusion from us we managed to find the RAR and transfer terminals and find the hotel. It was busy, but checkin was efficient and we were soon into our room. We decided we would avail ourselves of the welcome drink vouchers (kids relaxed in room - after nearly 20hours without wifi for them telling all their friends they’d arrived in Europe was job 1…..).

Was a good call in the end - the bar was pretty busy (Friday night) and they had the “in house band” playing their first gig of the summer season and the crowd (which appeared to mostly be either friends of the band, and French overnighting before early morning departures on holidays) were really into it!

Room was pretty good - it’s clearly a dated building but has been reasonably refurbished. One main room, and then a second bedroom. Drawback was shower/bathroom which was tiny - acceptable in a budget hotel, but comically small for a 4 person room. Lifts were fast and efficient.

Breakfast buffet on the first proper (non-airport lounge!) morning of our holiday was the best we ended up seeing in three weeks in EU/UK - huge selection, well refreshed.

So in the end, happy with the cost saving, happy with the decision not to traipse into town late on arrival, happy kids with the breakfast selection, happy parents with the welcome drinks. Would 100% stay here agin where convenient to do (either late arrival or early departure from CDG).

If you want a pretty good definition of a "shoebox", it's "An Ibis hotel room in Paris"! That aside, however, they're pretty good places to stay at rates that are (for Paris) quite reasonable.

Agree, although the room was actually very decent (just the bathroom was lousy) - i suspect it used to be two separate rooms…..
