Overall opinion: The room fit out was quite nice and excellent value IMO, although bed was quite firm. The room faced north over Raffles and had a functional balcony but not much of a view. I stayed two nights, partly due to the very competitive rate compared with other 5* properties on these dates, and also maximising the current Accor Boost promo.

A cabinet next to the bed contained a hot/chilled filtered water tap, which was neat feature and definitely my preference over bottled water - although bottled was provided also. The alarm clock by the bed had a Qi charger built in which was useful as all the power sockets in the room were type G (UK style only) rather than universal. There was a single universal socket in the bathroom (designed for shavers) so most of my laptop and phone charging happened in there.

Breakfast is available at Prego and Asian Market Cafe, although I couldn't see the AMC breakfast menu online so I went to Prego on both days. The Prego menu was quite varied anyway. The coffee was pretty poor but this might be standard for Singapore - I haven't spent enough time there to say. The nasi lemak was great, the ipoh hor fun was quite bland.

First time staying in an SO. The fit-out is ... interesting. It looks a slightly better in person than in photos, but it's still very 'out there', and not really to my tastes.

The bedding was very comfortable and the room had decent tech - an iPad by the bed controlled lights, curtains, the TV and Chromecast (which worked well). The phone for contacting reception was an iPod Touch by the bed, this was a bit buggy and I ended up having to pick up a call from reception using the phone in the bathroom.

The room aircon was a little lacklustre and the soundproofing on the "heritage" side of the building was quite weak. A few hours after checking in I ended up back at the front desk asking if there was any chance of another room as my neighbour was very loudly coughing up their guts every 5-10 minutes. They immediately acknowledged the soundproofing wasn't great and asked for 30 mins to prepare another room - I was moved one floor down to the exact same type of room. The new room was fine.

The rooftop pool & bar on L6 was quite nice, although there are several office buildings directly across the road which didn't make it feel too welcoming for a dip during the day. Still a good spot for a beer - they have two Brewerkz taps which are covered by the welcome drink voucher. Other drinks covered by the voucher were a few wines and juices, no coughtails.

Breakfast was a little chaotic with the restaurant maybe 70% full. There were plenty of staff but several were new and/or untrained. After being served food I had to ask for cutlery, a napkin, etc. The food was great otherwise (between this post and the last, can you tell I am a fan of nasi lemak..) and I'm assuming these service issues are just temporary as the hotel ramps back up after the pandemic.

The hotel is in an excellent location if you are visiting Singapore for the food, it's directly next to La Pau Sat (24/7 hawker centre) and its large outdoor "satay street" pops up every night at about 6pm. My room was the furthest away from this so I don't know how noisy/smoky the rooms overlooking the market would get, this could potentially be an issue.

The hotel is also walking distance to Maxwell, Hong Lim, Chinatown Centre, Amoy Street, and other great food centres, and Telok Ayer MRT station is about two blocks walk.

The concierge (Ismael) was very personable and jovial. The other front desk staff were also a little more friendly and talkative than the other two properties I stayed at. Overall I thought the location was the best of the three hotels I stayed at (Fairmont & Conrad being the others) and I thought this was a great use of a Stay Plus voucher. I'm keen to go back and try the Sofitel just a couple of blocks from here!

You made the right choice there. Asian Market Cafe is a staff served buffet, where the quality of the food is fair amount poorer then Prego.

I think the Deluxe Rooms have a bigger balcony and a view of Marina Bay Sands?

I've often wondered about both this and the Sofitel in SIN. Looking forward to the Sofitel review in future.

The pool area looks quite small in terms of sun lounges etc. Is that actually the case?

I concluded the SO brand must be Accor's version of Marriot's W hotels. Is that a fair assessment?

Yep, it doesn't have much in the way of sun lounges - 6-7 individual lounges total.

The majority of the space is outdoor patio furniture, I think the space is primarily configured to turn into a bar/club at night.

I'd say that's probably about right. Perhaps the SO is trying to be a little more elegant and toned down compared to a W? But same sort of vibe.

Mind you this is my only experience with an SO and my only W experiences are Melb and Bris, perhaps other SOs are completely different.

Property: Pullman Melbourne on the Park

Room booked/received: Superior Suite, Garden View
Rate: Here's where it gets interesting - I normally book directly given I receive generous corporate rates. I had a $100 Qantas Hotel voucher from PC+, and was pleasantly surprised by the rates when booking through Qantas. They had the suite available for ~$700/night for 2 adults, but when I added in a third adult, the rate dropped down to $533/night. As fate would have it, I was travelling in a party with 3 adults. After the $100 voucher, I ended up paying $500/night, while the equivalent could be booked directly through Accor for $800/night. I emailed the hotel directly before making the booking to confirm whether they would honour the rate, which, to my surprise, they confirmed they would.
Welcome gift: Couple of water bottles, replenished daily
Early check in/late out: Requested an early check-in, but wasn't needed given the debacle at Sydney airport.

The location of this property is great. Just outside the chaos in the city (F1 weekend), but with a tram stop right outside it was a breeze getting in to the CBD. Good location of course for the MCG as well. I hadn't stayed here before the renovation, but the suite was nicely renovated - simple but modern. Buffet breakfast included, with a decent range of options.

Property: Fairmont Singapore
Was the Fairmont busy during your stay? I'll be there for a week at the beginning of May, which should push me over the line for Gold. Work budget only allowed for the Fairmont Room in the older North tower, so wondering what my changes are of an upgrade to the newer South tower.

No breakfast by the pool at Alligator Pear any more? 🙁

Negative - at least it wasn't mentioned in the welcome letter.

Was the Fairmont busy during your stay?

Reasonably busy, mostly leisure travellers from what I could tell. Prego was about 50-60% full on both mornings.

Given you booked via QF hotels, did they provide status benefits and did you earn points etc for your stay?
