How does Accor treat you as an Elite guest?

Property: ibis Budget Sydney Airport
Room booked: Standard Room, 1 Queen Bed
Room Rate: Member's Special Event Rate, Room Only - $75.60
Status: Accor+Platinum
Room upgraded/type: No
Free internet: Yes
Welcome drink: Yes (2 vouchers given at check-in, further 4 vouchers slid under the door afterward)
Early check in/late out: N/A as my QF flight departs at 10 AM, and I ended up arriving at the airport around 21:45
VIP treatment: N/A
Access to executive lounge (if existing): N/A
Additional care: May have received a slightly better room (i.e. away from the elevators in its own wing)

Had a morning flight out of SYD, and decided to stay here instead of waking up super early and schlepping down to the airport in rush hour. This is now the fourth of five Accor hotels I have stayed at near SYD (the other three being the Ibis, Pullman and Novotel). Check-in was quick and overall was fairly satisfied with the room which seemed modern (albeit not as glamorous as the Pullman):

The hotel itself is located near all the hot spots of Sydney airport, the Krispy Kreme, McDonalds and KFC. In addition, there is a Mantra located directly beside it with a restaurant if you want more upscale dining (and to use your Accor+ discount).

@kangarooflyer88 would this hotel be ok for and international flight as well?
If I was you (and I'm not you by the way), I think the Novotel Sydney International Airport would be the better choice if staying at an Accor hotel. It's maybe a 5 or 10 minute stroll to the international terminal. Yes you certainly could stay at hotels located near the domestic terminal, but as others have pointed out you'll need to catch either the T-Bus or take the train to the international terminal which IMHO isn't worth it for the minor cost savings.

It's closer to 15 min and completely exposed to the elements - not much fun with luggage in tow. Novotel also has a shuttle for $10pp.

I’d argue it’s completely impractical to walk from Novotel Sydney International to the international terminal.

Once you cross Cooks River all the on/off ramps and overpasses for Airport Drive make it really difficult.

Google maps says 27 mins, but some of these have no footpaths and I’d consider them unsuitable, even unsafe, for pedestrians.

However, we stayed here prior to an early departure in September and the Uber (at 0445 with no traffic) was AUD10.51

If you have a look at the link in my earlier post, there's a pathway back under the Cooks River bridge which connects to a pedestrian & bicycle overpass which does make it walkable. The overpass links into the P7 parking building. But it is a 15 min walk minimum, possibly 20 with bags.

Yep, I’ve done the walk a couple of time minus luggage and it’s a good 15 minutes. I wouldn’t bother if I had luggage as the shuttle is far easier.

This time they were all full, so I parked next to them. They even email you beforehand this procedure. Then head up to checkin. I even remarked to the staff whilst checking in, there were no free spots. Head back to car to find id received a ticket. I returned back up to the checkin and showed them the ticket. GM said they would take care of the ticket, i may have said, that i wouldnt be staying if they didnt. Ive since read up, the private car parking ticket, cant do anything about it, if you fail to pay anyway :p

Property: Pullman Quay Grand Sydney Harbour
Room booked: 1 bedroom deluxe suite garden view, 79 square metres.
Room Rate: $650 approx
Status: Gold last time I bothered to look
Room upgrade: No. Hotel was fully booked anyway. Plus the garden view was arguably the better side during the Elevate Festival which was playing loud music on the harbour side all day and late into the night the whole time I was there.
Early check in: No
Late checkout: Didn't bother asking, it was obvious the hotel was chockers.
Free internet: yes
Welcome drink: Yes, water, still 2 bottles, chocolates, 2 drink vouchers
Access to executive lounge (if existing): I didn't check if there even is a lounge as I hate hotel lounges, deep fried food and poor quality wines.

Excellent location for access to trains, buses and ferries, and for cruise ship watching. Housekeeping attended to the room prior to lunchtime every day although was a bit erratic as to what was done or left undone.

When I was allowed into the room I was relieved to see my bag already in the room, but it had somehow acquired 2 friends that were not mine. I immediately rang reception and someone came to remove them, full of apologies. But how sloppy. And imagine if I had stayed out until really late - I bet nobody would have known where those poor people's bags had got to.

Room service was not 24 hours but had set times which were really confusing. I have never seen a worse 'dinner' menu on room service - there was nothing even approximately like a main course available. There was a curry on the 'late night' menu starting at 10pm but they refused to serve it to me at 6.30pm. Luckily there is an Indian restaurant close by so I went and got a takeaway instead.

The suite had a full oven, microwave, dishwasher and washing machine as well as crockery, pans etc. There was a silly little waste paper basket under the sink, just not big enough for a self cater kitchen. 2 more waste paper baskets in the bathroom and bedroom, all overflowing by the time I left (the one in the bedroom didn't get emptied the whole time for some reason).

Had a good steak one night in the hotel restaurant Q. I used one of my drink vouchers in the bar which was full of loud non guests enjoying the harbour view. It wasn't a good place for a quiet drink so I didn't return.

I booked this 4 star hotel because the combination of room rate and room size were a very good deal compared to the 5 star hotels nearby which were charging $700-800 per night for rooms around 26-30 square metres. Despite the service hiccups I would stay there again.

Garden view included:

They have a shuttle bus to T1 for international flights - timetable attached. Unsure on cost.
Sorry, staying OT there should also be a T3 - T1 420 bus for $2.24. You still need to schelp from the Ibis/Mantra to T3 but avoids the train surcharge.

I *never* stay at a SYD airport hotel (no need, I’m 15-20 mins away) but if I couldn’t stay at the Rydges when flying from T1, I’d probably go for one of several hotels under the “Mascot” in the picture. They probably also have shuttles as well as easier access to the train to T1. Plus, if you’re there in time to do something / dinner - easy access into the city by train.

Fair call. My apologies.

I use dark mode on iOS.

One of the limitations on some sites (AFF being one) is that you can’t tell what’s a link and what’s not.

Here’s how your post appeared for me - I could only see it as having the .pdf

Cost is $10 from the ibis budget Sydney Airport for that bus. IIRC the bus picks folks up from the Mantra which is located directly beside the hotel.

Nope. That's not my experience at all. I've got myself on a GoPro walking from the hotel to T1 hauling two bags and commentating on the way there as part of my trip report. It took 9 minutes and 38 seconds. Maybe I got long legs, or that second can of Red Bull kicked in! 😂

Here's a little video tour of the pedestrian/cycle path.
The video starts at the point just after you've crossed the bridge over the river.
And that video is 2 minutes so clearly my 5 to 10 minute assessment was correct! 😂

There are five Accor Sydney Airport hotels:
  • Novotel Sydney International Airport
  • Ibis Sydney Airport
  • Ibis Budget Sydney Airport
  • Pullman Sydney Airport
  • Mantra on Sydney Airport
The Ibis Budget and the Pullman are a short walk from T2/T3 whereas the Novotel is a short walk to T1 (for different definitions of short). All 4 of them I have visited (i.e. everyone except the Mantra) have offered a shuttle bus service for $8-$10 which if you have luggage can be sensible. There is also the 420 and 350 buses that go by these hotels that will get you to either terminal for $2 as others have noted.

Getting back on topic a bit, and I think you'll see from the prior reviews I made at these very airport hotels, which one you stay at really depends on what you're looking for. The Novotel is nice if you want a full service hotel near the international terminal. Accor also tends to discount this hotel for Accor+ members. The Pullman would be the analogue for domestic terminals, although one could make an argument for staying at the Pullman even with an international flight on account of the executive lounge. Regular Ibis (located beside the Pullman) can be a good option if there's a sale, otherwise I'd pick the Ibis Budget given its proximity to the airport, Maccas and other premium ammentieis.

As an aside, if there is any interest in reviewing the various Accor Airport hotels (as a separate thread). Let me know, and I'll go about making one as I've been staying at a heck of a lot of Accor airport hotels over the past while (and into the future too)!

Novotel is a decent enough property but the Pullman is comfortably the best Accor hotel in the airport region. We normally just Uber it as whilst hotel to airport is fine by taxi we have been refused that many times going the other way that we have given up on them

The one question thus far that hasn't been answered staying at either hotel is how well they treat me as an Accor member as at that time I was a lowly Silver or Gold member. Now that I've got Platinum which arguably is as good as it gets with Accor, it will be real interesting to see how they treat me now in terms of things like breakfast and lounges to say nothing of gifts. In particular, I would be interested in seeing how the breakfast spread at the Pullman and the executive lounge compare to the offering at the Novotel. Fortunately I've got a stay at the Pullman booked for April, so we'll see!

Starting halfway.. on a bicycle.. and stopping at the bike racks in P7.

Please do share footage walking from Novotel to T1 Departures in under 10 min...

Sure do that. I like the Syd Airport Pullman; classy and only three stops from the city by train from Mascot.
