How does CX treat you as an elite?

Put into perspective - your QF P1 status would have similar onboard treatment as a CX Gold (which requires 6x less flying to achieve than P1).
I would put Diamond treatment at somewhere between P1 and CL.

Just shows how poor QF P1 service on QF is if I believe a CX Gold receives better treatment on CX......

things that impressed me about CX during my couple of years based in HKG and MPC Gold:

1- op-ups (frequent on both short and long haul)
2- redemption rates & taxes
3- waitlisting awards / placing itineraries on hold by phone
4- no service charges for the call centre to touch your booking
5- free exit rows
6- status matches for new arrivals

being back in syd now i switched back to qf as my main program but still pine for the HKG lounges and miss the CX service.

Have to agree with all of this, especially the Op-Ups!! I've had more op-ups as a CX Silver in 12 months than 3 years as a QF WP. (To help put it into perspective: MPS 100% vs. WP 0%. In fact, I actually had more op-ups as a QF NB than a WP!)

Also love the lounge access, including the ability to access the QP at ADL. Seems CX have their priorities straight, although their new rules could change that, come April 16. Will see how it affects me in 16 days. ;)

I have been very happy with service received by CX in the past as a QF WP/P1 in all classes of travel (Y/J/F). I would say that it was far better than on QF as a QF elite. CX is one of the few airlines that even acknowledges their partner elite members. I have received more Op Ups on CX than on QFi.
Interesting you would say that. In my experience I am just another passenger on CX.

I get a greeting if there are no Marco Polo elites onboard. I can see the CSM rushing through the cabin with the passenger manifest.

Customer service is poor with poor follow up.

Service recovery is poor.

Haven't had an op-up on CX in a long time. Admittedly I travel in business most times which is the highest cabin on most intra Asia flights.

I guess it's another of those with a huge YMMV.

Speaking of status matches, I've had a response to my enquiry. As expected, they handle it with care – no freebies at CX! It's actually great, and to be honest, don't mind if it's not granted as I should be able to get there on my own. Just have to fly J for a while so I don't miss the all the mod cons :p

Update on the status match thing – like many other report, CX have offered to match my VA WP with MP Silver. I'm happy with that.

Means I can fly Y while building up to Gold and not miss lounges, priority check-in etc. Works for me.

Let the adventure begin!

Excellent - that is what I received also from a match to QF WP

Congratulations! Hope you enjoy all they have to offer and I look forward to hearing your opinion on the switch. :)

I too find that CX treat OWE very well. Only two flights in the last year or so, but the staff could not do enough. Once moved to PE, and the other time to an exit row with an enforced shadow (blanket over the seat). Warm welcome each time. I have been QF WP for about four years and only 3(?) op-ups in total.

Good luck with the move to CX, mrsmart.

I've actually been downgraded after being upgraded on CX after a "CX Gold" checked in (which trumped by QF WP at the time)
Awkward conversation as the check in agent informed me of the PE upgrade...printed a boarding pass...only to rip it back up and give me a seat further down the back. Ouch.

But I agree - more op-ups on CX than QF overall

Does checking in on line diminish your chances of an op up?

There's a huge thread on FT about this: The Ultimate Upgrade Question thread - FlyerTalk Forums

The short version: doesn't seem like it.

It sounds like they used to use check-in order as a tie-break between equal status members, meaning the sooner you checked in, the greater your odds. However, they now (apparently) use a CIV ranking to do it. Essentially, that's your value to CX based on numerous factors, one of which would be spend.

I can bet tripping_the_rift knows much more about this, but that's my understanding of it.

Flew CX138 overnight, no welcome, no anything, so much for falling all over OWE's ðŸ

And OMG, how small is the arrivals lounge? Tiny, packed, 6 showers and waiting list of 18! ðŸ

Will agree with that. I thought there had to some extra space out the back, but no.

I guess that's why they're stricter with entry into it.

You expected more?

One or two isolated "good" experiences reported on AFF are not the norm.

Expected at least a greet from a CSM
Always get that on QF and BA
