Status: SPG Gold
Property: Westin Times Square New York
When: 8-10 May
Booked: Grand Deluxe Guest Room
Upgrade: Premium Deluxe Room King
SPP Reward redemption
Had originally booked the Grand Deluxe Guest room on 16th Floor as it had heaps of space and was coming on the back of a 5 night stay at Conrad NY so were used to the extra space. Didn't receive an upgrade on check-in - wasn't expecting one as I know not to expect it with SPG Gold. The room was not very reflective of the Westin 'brand' - was quite like most New York hotel rooms - quite old and tired.

I complained to the front desk particularly as the Mrs wasn't happy. The next day, they moved us to the Grand Deluxe room on 30th floor. Much nicer room - smaller but not a poky room so we were happy - very good service recovery by Westin. Well located Hotel - would stay there again.

As a guide, I am platinum, and sitting on about 80 nights in 2018 alone.

Ouch - It's a big price to pay for that room with no upgrade - was the hotel pretty full? Did you seek anything out or just left it to them to do it, or not.

The whole of Singapore is pretty full. Conrad is at 700 and Westin 700 as well.

Just staying one night for business so just check in online, got the key on arrival. Room is good for one person so not really fussed.

We have 3 nights at the Marriott Marquis in New York for $499 and I will go to a Vacation Club seminar. I don’t need a time share so that won’t be a problem.

@cove, I remember you mentioning that, still to do it by the look of it. OT, but I just saw, Come From Away in Toronto and it’s one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. Consider it if it’s still in NYC, take tissues though.

Thanks GMOH. I haven’t booked NYC for 2019 as the Qantas Double Status hasn’t been released.
We saw Carousel,Bands Visit, Mean Girls, Once On This Island and Sponge Bob Square Pants.
Previous visits we saw Dear Evan Hansen, Hamilton, Waitress, Groundhog Day (closed now), Hello Dolly and Billy Joel.
We sometimes do matinees as well as evening shows and the Marriott Marquis is fantastic for short walks to the theatres. Sure it isn’t the best hotel in New York but the location is a winner for us.

Not an elite but recently used a 7 night certificate for a Friday-Friday stay in Hua Hin resort.

We felt like we received great treatment. We were getting 6-8 bottles drinking water/day and on Thursday evening invited to 1 hour coughtails. Not everyone is invited. Don't think the resort has a lounge.

Wasn’t sure if to post here, or Starwood thread, but given we are now integrated, I chose here...

Status: Platinum Premier Elite
Property: Sheraton Grand Bengaluru Whitefield
Dates: 16-21 Sep 2018
Rate: Corporate Rate of INR9,500++ incl. bfast, wifi and local office transfers
Booked: Deluxe King (lead in type)
Received: Junior Suite (6 categories up). Huge multi room, even for junior, with living, 2nd bathroom, etc.
Other: Club Lounge, welcome notes, fruits, a million bottles of water daily, but that’s pretty standard anywhere regardless of status, in India.

A very nice property, for where it is, and easily the best of those that I have stayed in, in this part of town. Hotel service is great, but possibly too slow at times. The contractor for transport has failed me a few times already and some ‘constructive criticism’ was delivered to management on that today. But, the food is fantastic - so far really great at all outlets and maybe the best I’ve had overall across 20+ 5 star properties in Bangalore. Local stuff; western stuff; it’s all good.

Recommended, if you are unlucky enough to have to endure these parts as often as me.

Cheers,
Matt.

p.s. for some reason, the hotel has decided to pipe in contemporary country music at all hours of the day in common areas and in the lounge, and it is really, really irritating. I’ve taken to carrying my headphones and listening to my own stuff to drown it out and save my sanity! :D

Much better experience on this stay compared to the last, where no upgrade was offered or given. Would now stay again :)

Matt.

Nice hotel, if a little tired. Service is good, and staff very friendly. Food quite nice - especially the garlic & parmesan bread pizza thing in Prego! My first visit to Hyderabad, after countless trips to Bangalore, and must say I find it a much more laid back place to be, and get around (edit: by India standards!).

Cheers,
Matt.

Property: The Westin Kuala Lumpur
Dates: 26 Sep 2018
Rate: MYR517++ Corporate Rate, incl b’fast and wifi
Booked: Deluxe King (lead in type)
Received: Executive 1 Bedroom Residence (+4 categories).
Other: 9AM check-in, Club Lounge, bottles of water.

A pretty impressive suite/apartment, which I think is probably more suited to long stay guests, with a functional kitchen and full sized fridge, study, living, small casual dining and other zones. Lots of empty cupboards and shelves around.

Seperate private entry to the residences is also available from the street, though easily accessible from the lobby as well, if held doors and a million greetings are more your thing :) I’ve had enough of that for this run, so appreciate the peace and quiet.

Cheers,
Matt.

Platinum Elite stayed at Ritz Carlton Pudong Shanghai .... booked one suite and one room with club access - received exactly what I booked. Spectacular hotel with absolutely stunning views.

Only complaint - the stay was early Oct, and today I was finally awarded the points, that's basically 10 weeks. Ended up with 78,678 points for a two night stay. No idea if that's correct or not - how does one calculate these things?

Wow, don't complain! For two nights, two rooms i thought it would be around 10 - 15,000! they probably added a late fee penalty.......
