The Qantas website advises check-in opens 3 hours prior to the flight departure. We have a 9 hour layover with 2 kids and lots of associated luggage. All the amenities that will keep the kids entertained seem to be after security (i.e. only accessible after check-in).

Has anyone had any experience with earlier check-ins at LAX? Would an online check-in allow me to drop-off bags any earlier? Also happy to hear any alternative options that I haven't thought of. Thanks!!

The one time I attempted this was back pre-covid and it was not allowed.. post covid very unlikely.

Even if it was, with all the baggage issues right now, I'm not wanting them to take care of my bags any longer than absolutely necessary (and that goes for international and local).. within a couple of hours you know it's going pretty much directly to the right location for loading, outside of that who knows where it might end up sitting and being forgotten!

Thanks all - I'll look into hotel and locker options - and will keep in mind about having luggage checked-in too early with all the luggage woes at the moment!

yeah H hotel is a good option for day use and reasonable rates.

IIRC QF checkin optens 1730-1800ish for some of those earlier departures as opposed to the QF12/94.
