Cancelled 3x award bookings (5 pax each) for July. Points credited <24h, taxes refunded to CC in 3 days

Qantas has advised that the first leg of a 2 leg partner reward flight has been cancelled and there are no alternative flights available. The remaining leg is not much use on it's own so can I cancel it without paying the 6000 point penalty?
