I am seriously out numbered by many on this site as to the amount of times they travel overseas , however I need to suck that up. I love recording our trips by the photos I take, many rejected, but many retained. Based simply on 0/S tours I have tagged 12,443 as keepers, and I think long and hard on what is a keeper. Interested to know what criteria you judge your photo as a retention or rejection, we all have our criteria.

Look forward to your responses.

Quick look says 24,291-must spend some time doing a tidy, has been a while

My digital photo folder which includes all my personal, family and travel photos is 338GB big, containing nearly 76,000 photos - I do delete..... some ;). they are backed up on 2 external drives at home and 2 external drives which I keep at work in case my house burns down!! I don't buy souvenirs when I travel but tend to photogragh "everything" !!

When I started doing photo books a few years ago, it brought in a much harder sorting and culling of digital pics (BTW, first fully digital collection was from a trip to the UK in 2003, but have now scanned a bunch of earlier photo prints).

From a trip, a first easy cull of obvious duplicates, crummy or irrelevant shots. Maybe 40% gone.
Then a harder cull, deleting pics which don't tell a 'story'. Another 20% of total gone.
Final cull, with a series of comparative 'grand finals' of images taken of the same thing/location, with only the best kept, then washed through Lightroom, labelled with meta-data and titled. About 30% of original number taken are kept this way.

Sometime  ... sometime I'll go back and do all the pre 2012 stuff, where I might have only done the first pass cull.

About 35,000 images in 700 folders and sub-folders totalling 213GB (Lightroom processing boosts a 4MB image up to about 10MB). Stored on my NAS box, with twin 2TB HDDs that store my entire digital life (plus off-site and cloud storage blah, blah ..)

33,821 photos synced between my two macs and my iPhone. I don't solely take photos on my mobile though, so some of the images can be quite large if taken with a digital camera. Naturally, they're backed up to my NAS, but the added fact they're all sitting in the cloud available to download to any of my devices (and yes I have 2-factor authentication) makes me feel quite safe about not losing them.

about 50000 but I'm sure I could delete at least 20% of those if I had time and I think I've got at least 2000 that I'm going to scan by an FlyboyAl in Adelaide when I get my cough together and put them in a box - on laptop, 3 hard drives (in different places) and the cloud (I'm not really obsessive)

Very similar technique to me :)

Nowhere near as many as the numbers mentioned in this thread. Maybe a few thousand, if that.

Now that my daughter is born I will try to take photos of her regularly with her mother and my parents. She can go through these photos when she gets older.

Hmm. I've just done a count in windows and the hard drive with the photos comes up at 177,327!!!
There might be some duplication, but not much.
I love photography, and those numbers include over 5000 35mm slides which I've scanned and added to the digital files.

I keep most, just culling the "bad" shots and duplicates, hard drive space is cheap and so are memory cards, I don't write over an old sd card just get a new one, also have backups, like most, on external hard drives, and run most pics on a random loop as a screen saver for my htpc, I mean whats the point of taking them if your never going to look at them, also a good conversation starter when friends come over.

Don't forget to get lots of photos of you holding her. You're her daddy and she will treasure all of the photos of herself and her parents.
