How many Qantas Club life self funded members out there?

Both my partner and I are QP Life Members - self-funded at that - have been for about 8 years now. Mind you, since I have been a WP for a few years now (and hope to be for the next couple of years at least) and he's Gold, the reliance on QP membership hasn't been of any real consideration for quite a while.

Provided the NGCI and bag drop stuff works as it should, I don't see the loss of priority check-in as a major issue for QP members.

I think that QP members having to pay for bag tags is wrong, and very stingy on Qantas's part.

I also think that withdrawal of priority luggage handling is wrong, but given that most of the time this only works sporadically at best anyway I also don't think this is a major issue.

Fundamentally though, QP membership is there to provide lounge access - imo all the other benefits were nice but it's the lounge (and access to ODUs) that I primarily joined for.

I've been a senior life member since a family member bought the membership for my 60'th birthday back in 2004.

Luckily, QF recently renewed my PS status at the most recent review date even though I didn't have enough SC and sent the kit with NGCI tags. (Mrs SFSC who is not a QP member but is PS until July 11 has not received hers yet.)

The 2005 enhancement where the number of guests a life member could bring in dropped from 2 to 1 stung a bit and I am yet to get a double SC offer but overall I'm reasonably satisfied.

I wasn’t aware priority luggage handling was being removed?

Your baggage will be Priority or Business* tagged when you travel on Australian domestic flights marketed and operated by Qantas or QantasLink.^

* When you are travelling domestically in Business Class or if you have Platinum or Gold Frequent Flyer membership.
^ You must be travelling on a Qantas aircraft with a Qantas flight number.

While the bags will stop having Priority and Business colour-coded tags attached to them, they shall continue to attempt to provide priority luggage handling through the new system, which I guess means i’s harder for baggage handlers to spot priority bags, but the machines can.

Priority handling using the Q-tags doesn't happen.

Oh, well thats useful. Oh well. Kudos to Qantas for implementing a state of the art system that could do everything, and then leaving out key functionality

It's supposed to happen, but it doesn't. Last few flights I have seen all the bags with the orange/purple tags come out early, but the bags with the Q Bag Tags came out after all that in amongst the general non-priority baggage.

(and I say this as someone who found that the priority baggage system used to generally work)

I purchased life time QP membership at least 8 or more years ago and at that time was never expecting to be flying to the extent that I have been in recent years. Back then, I would go to the US on a yearly basis and having AA lounge access and especially prority check in was a huge huge bonus - US airports really sucked back 8-10 years ago (and still do now). I now have life time gold and if you read the fine print, they can take it away from you anytime with a future 'membership enhancement' - I have long lost the Ts and Cs of the lifetime paid QP membership so do not know if this will be a saving grace if the growing numbers of QP life members from SCs becomes untenable for QF.

Just troubleshooting and getting off topic here, but I wonder if this is only a problem on 737 flights where the ground staff have to sort bags themselves, or have you mainly flown 767’s?

Been on 737's, A330's and 767's.

Hey nlagalle - it will be interesting at JQ 35 to compare all the BP's and get a photo of all the Platinum and Golds on one table...!

I've never had my FF status printed on my JQ35/36 boarding passes (nor my flights to/from NZ).

I purchased QC Life almost 10 years ago, but it became superfluous when I achieved Gold, then Plat (and add to that Lifetime Silver) - so to me I haven't "used" the benefit, even though I paid for it (not knowing my travel was going to change [increase]).

For the OP, I can understand your frustration and disappointment at the supposed "enhancements". I'm not sure QF really thought that through...but who am I to know :shock:
