My Year ends 31 December and I will requalify for Platinum by 9th February. How qucik will you? and should I now persue P1?

Had I took up that CX J offer out of MNL I would of had it in the first fortnight. Instead probably will be 3-4 months, which isn't bad for a self funded. Anyway, I'm starting to get bored of this game. Moving towards flying the most obscure airlines I can find and just paying for cheapo J if they have it.

If you're flying that much anyway why not get P1? But really, you don't just buy/fly whatever is best or cheapest depending on your priority?

My original move from Silver to Platinum happened on one single work strip to the US, left as a lousy Silver and came back as a proud Platinum. Since then, keeping that status has been quite easy with a mix of work and leisure travel, especially as I try to avoid the "bus" even when going on holidays :p

Platinum One is too hard to achieve for me and sounds not worth it really -I rather keep my options open to try airlines outside of OneWorld up in a while which is always very interesting in comparison.

Hmm chasing P1 - it is an interesting question. Personally I would only chase P1 if I were close already, flew a lot of domestic flights and had a forecast expectation of a need to get award flights released. All three of those things were aligned for me this year so I hit P1. The domestic thing is to secure front row of whY and get extra leg room.

If those items were required and I could reasonably foresee ongoing EXP status on AA I would switch to AA.

Mine is also 31st December, it took me from 1st Jan til June sometime to achieve platinum.I think I've flown once since..

Just over five years ago I re-qualifed WP eight days into my new "year" - a First class return on AA between BOS and HNL helped muchly.

FWIW, I earned over 1000 SC's with my early November travel this year.

Took me three months this year (just re-qual'd). My quickest was 2010 - 28 days. Next year i don't even think i will make Platinum :( (but should be LTG by then - 400 SCs to go:) )

WP can get this - do P1s have a greater ability to request more award seats, or seats that otherwise would not have been released for a WP?

Yes P1 can request seats from revenue buckets. I think they just have more flexibility to request. For example (and this is total supposition on my part) Qantas "sell" Biz seats from JDCI and U buckets. The U is for awards. I am guessing that SG and below can get awards in U, WP can get awards released from I (subject to availability) and P1/CL can get awards released from C (subject to availability). I don't mean to imply either that I know the inside skinny or that all of a fare bucket would be available but I guessing that is how it works.

For example a week or two ago I got seats released SYD-DXB-SYD and there was no availability on line. A quick call to the P1 line and then being passed on to the premium line got awards on exactly the day I wanted. Another call back a couple of days later to change the flights (wife informed me that we had a wedding to go to on the day of the flights) got an award released on the subsequent Monday but nothing on the Tuesday. Availability is looking like this:

Sat - J9 C9 D9 I9

Sun - No flight scheduled

Mon - J9 C9 D9 I0

I hit WP after about 5 weeks this year (1st Aug to first week in Sept) and then PG by mid Oct. Haven't flown since and probably won't be on a plane until Feb next year. I expect to requalify for WP1 but wouldn't chase it unless I was only a hundred or so SC short. Special service team are great, award availability is great and I like the seat selection but that's about it.

I think it took me 5-6 months this year.

I should easily get Platinum + Partner Gold by 31 May 2013 but Platinum One is totally out of the question.

3.5 weeks this year. 1st Sep start, qualified on the 24th. Currently wondering if I should bother to go for P1 or change to Cathay as I am based in HK....

6 months for me.......however, without DSC I'd still be toiling:D

3 weeks for me this year as a nice SC run and visit to South America was slated for the first month of my new year.
In fact it's that time of year for me to start thinking about where to visit on next years run. The fun begins once again... :)

Way to go - just yesterday booked a DONE4 leaving on 1 Sept '13 (day 1 of my FF year), so requal for '13-14 is effectively in the bag :).
