How smart is the QF points calculator

Bugger, thought I fixed that. Will investigate, along with some information supplied to me by an FT member who did something similar about 4 years ago - and managed to get all the point to point distances from somewhere.

Great Circle mapper also has a new website, which would allow for a cleaner lookup for the miles eg: Great Circle Mapper

I've had a look at the various versions of the Spreadsheet and like the concept. Don't have any real feedback though.

I have a suggestion you may/may not like to get the correct (QF version of) number of miles.

OK, the domestic and international QF city pairs are all listed in the back of the inflight magazine - why not use those? Admittedly, i havent actually checked if they match what my FF statement says, but i'm sure someone will correct me if this is incorrect.

Then....

For other OW city pairs, we have a thread here so members can contribute if they fly the pairs, then you'll have accurate info for many many routes, and only have to rely on GCM for a lesser number.

Is this feasible for you?

That is actually a pretty good idea, but there is a sizable effort cost to it.

Will need to get your hands on a copy of The Australian Way though.

This will cover a lot of the domestic and QF only itineraries. Obviously with itineraries with other oneworld carriers, you're back to the original problem.

Nice idea, but they appear to be kilometres!

Not really logical by QF to have a scheme measured in miles, and mag listings in kilometres!

Is it easier to get the lat and longs of places by lookup and then use something like:

Latitude And Longitude

I got this by googling "great circle distance formula excel"

Looked at some more of the search results, seems Yahoo will return long and lat for a street address...

Hi,

Just came across this thread. Nice work on the spreadsheet. One error I noticed was that it gives you Status Bonus Points and Cabin Bonus Points on airlines such as Cathay and JAL, which from memory unfortunately don't give you those points even though they are OW airlines...

Cheers,

JOBU

Thanks, I'll look into it and let everyone know when there's a new version.

Still haven't got around to some of the improvements I wanted to do before, and also want to look at some modelling functions (What if I changed some/all sectors to higher cabin class, etc) to give some planning ideas.
