How to be selected for the decanted wine in the SYD (and possibly MEL) F lounge?

One of the great things about AFF is the different personalities and what they look for and enjoy when they travel. I had no idea there was a decanter of wine at the bar and will be looking out for it now. So thank you simongr I have been genuinely enlightened and am looking forward to my next F lounge experience because there is something new to look out for.

The other side of the coin is my interest in the folks who have been so quick to post their "first world problem" comments. I do wonder if Feper had started this thread the outcome would have been the same. (i.e civil answers .)

Maybe a 'Best/Worst decanted wine in the F lounge' thread? :p

IIRC they usually have the bottle next to the decanter so you can see what variety and year.

I expect part of the reason for the more civil answers was a genuine sharing desire rather than some form of "how can I get something you can't have?"

Also after six years of active posting on the site I probably get afforded some lattitude as well ;)

Mind you - search on the term gate lice and you might form a different opinion...

Tony you are the proof of the old saying-"you catch more flies with honey".If feper used your approach the response would be much different.Even If I thought the opposite to you I would still read your posts-they do brighten the day even though you are a DYKWIA.

If you were to search that term I am sure I would do a lot worse. Some thought I was the reincarnation of the devil for using such a term.

The one I had was Rockford basket press Shiraz.

:o

Whilst I am no wine expert, that is a very good drop. HHoG on the other hand!

I potentially have an option to visit both MEL and SYD F Lounges next year in the same day on the same booking.. with a total F Lounge time of ~10 hours.. this new revelation is going to make it even better!!

Thanks for sharing the decanter goods, had no idea it existed and unloved my Vino!

I just have to be more disciplined to stop the champagne and get in to a great red and a sticky before I'm paged to board my flight.

I do not know about the decanter, but I know if your nice to the waiter and chat about wine, he will bring out the good stuff not on the list, I have had a Hill of Grace and a Rockford Basket Press but only in SYD talked to the waiter in Melbourne F lounge and he told me that they do not get the same wines as SYD.

You and me both. I must admit I'm not a huge red wine buff and prefer to stick to the bubbles and whites in moderation prior to a long haul flight.
Looks like I'll need to splash out a bit ;)

I'm in SYD F on Thursday. Will look for the decanter thread, maybe.

I've tried a few draft versions of such a thread. I won't bother posting the full draft. But I can't help but think it would include words like "what you scum platinums can't get". I don't know, i think that might cause a bit of a different reaction.

Excuse me! Scum is reserved for Gold; we are the Great Un-Washed Platinum (GU-WP). :p

I just asked and was provided with the wine - it was nice but nothing that special.
