"How to Blag an Upgrade"

Agree with the sort of 'ruleset' proposed earlier for QF upgrading, it certainly makes sense. I have had a bunch of domestic and a few international upgrades (generally J to F) including one the first time I took Mrs Simcat OS - her comment on departure from the aircraft (Frankfurt) was classic, 'Gee, the economy seats look cramped', my response, 'Those are the business class seats!'. She's been spoiled for life - definitely a 'rod for my back' ever since whenever booking OS trips. ;)

A mate at work who is not a member of QFF at all (madness) and does a fair bit of domestic travel and the occasional J international trip for work, actually was downgraded from J to Y from SYD to LAX. I have never laughed so much when he told me - should've been a QFF member (still hasn't joined). This was on a fully paid J fare. What made it worse was the person he was travelling with (WP) was upgraded to First!

Well - no free WP upgrade post grounding for me this morning out of CNS.

Although its not the published times or routes so I didn't really expect it.

Maybe I should complain that I'm being discriminated against because other WPs in other cities are getting a benefit which I miss out on ?? ;)
I'll see how I go out of SYD this afternoon.

JQ30 is running late!

There must be something wrong with me when the first thing I noticed from that article was that they're using the original A380 marketing photos from the good 'ol days when QF still served Dom Perignon...

[-]I believe there have been recent reports that they serve Dom again. Everything old is new again.[/-] It is most likely that I was just making this up, please ignore.

I believe there have been recent reports that they serve Dom again. Everything old is new again.

I pressed the point with Terri from Rockpool (who is one of the key people involved in the food & wine selection on board) at the QFF P1 lunch and she was adamant that the Taittinger had been selected to replace the Dom and was now under contract.

That said I haven't flown QF F since September so if things have changed since then I'm very glad to hear it!

It is more likely that I'm totally wrong. My previous post edited to reflect this.

Bugger - you had me all excited too... Will learn to read humour better next time!

Sorry. Totally my fault. Wasn't trying to be funny. Just relying on my memory too much. I think I read about the Dom information from that lunch and then got it the wrong way around. Only realise my mistake when you mentioned the tatt.

What about the old chestnut "we're on our honeymoon" because they've read in some glossy travel mag that's all you need to say.

One couple tried that on but it was rather odd that both their passports were already in their married name (which wouldn't happen until they'd provided a marriage certificate to the passport office) & had been issued some 3 years earlier!

Some punters must think airline people are stupid.

We actually managed that on our actual honeymoon, SYD-BNE ... but it was a hell of an effort to get them to do it.

My mother shares the same first and last name as the wife of a very senior QF exec. Her upgrade success rate is astronomically high. Although she does get some funny looks when she travels with my father...

I suspect the efforts involved in changing your name by deed poll are probably beyond that of even the most determined AFFers.

The comment I found most interesting was the guy who changed ailines simply because an op-up had to be retracted due to the spare seat being sold. I mean really, talk about throwing your toys out of the pram. it was never your seat to begin with and you were only asked to be seated in the seat you originally paid for.

But most of the comments here are along the vein of......those seats are empty so why shouldnt I get it? Really, do you help yourself to a loaf of bread out of a shop at the end of a day just because no-one else has bought it? No, because you would call taking something that you didnt pay for theft. I never quite get why people think a spare seat on an airliner is any different.

Lolz at the guy publicly admitting that he pays for hmself to travel J but sticks his wife in economy. Of course QF is the meanie there.....:-|
