Agree with the sort of 'ruleset' proposed earlier for QF upgrading, it certainly makes sense. I have had a bunch of domestic and a few international upgrades (generally J to F) including one the first time I took Mrs Simcat OS - her comment on departure from the aircraft (Frankfurt) was classic, 'Gee, the economy seats look cramped', my response, 'Those are the business class seats!'. She's been spoiled for life - definitely a 'rod for my back' ever since whenever booking OS trips.
A mate at work who is not a member of QFF at all (madness) and does a fair bit of domestic travel and the occasional J international trip for work, actually was downgraded from J to Y from SYD to LAX. I have never laughed so much when he told me - should've been a QFF member (still hasn't joined). This was on a fully paid J fare. What made it worse was the person he was travelling with (WP) was upgraded to First!
