Good afternoon,

Fingers crossed and touchwood, we'll been taking an infant (needing ticket but no seat) SYD-LAX and beyond then return in mid-2015.

We will buy VA flexi economy and upgrade to business with points, at least trans-Pacific.

Any advice on how to ticket the future infant? Obviously we know only the last name, and we do not know date of birth.

Or do we just add the baby later on?

Kind regards,

SBD

You add the baby after it's born, no other way that I am aware of doing it.

We did this earlier this year. Ring the VA call centre and they will add "Baby SURNAME" to the booking. Call back when you have a baby and a name and they will change it.

Thank you, markis10 and 777.

VA booked my wife and me, and we'll add the infant once we know her name and date of birth. We'll have plenty of time.

Since we know the baby's sex, they were willing to ticket the baby as "Baby SBD," but wanted a dummy date of birth being today's date.

Attaching a date of birth to a travel document for the first time in the person's life, and using one known to be 100% wrong, seemed unwise.

So we'll add it in 2015.

Kind regards,

SBD

I had my Christmas flights booked with QF while we were still expecting. Once my son was born a few months ago I called them and had his name and DOB added to the bookings with minimum fuss. I would have imagined VA to be the same.

Scott.

Is it safe to assume that all airlines would act in a similar manner when booking an unborn infant? I'm thinking of BA specifically.
