When I've been booking flights on the Qantas website I've not been able to identify the fare class. For example, I may know I'm booking a Red eDeal however I will have no idea which fare class I'm booking. This is important, particularly in determining whether or not a booking will be eligible for earning points on some other carriers' frequent flyer programs.

I rang Qantas this morning to inquire and they were absolutely no help. After 35 minutes on the phone, including the final 5 minutes waiting while the person I was speaking to (Christine) had me on hold while she was looking for a "senior specialist" (as her Supervisor (Michael) did not want her to transfer the call to him), the line went dead. Thank you very much Qantas for your terrific service ... NOT.

Does anyone know how to locate this information before confirming a booking, other than calling QF reservations and (often) waiting a long time to get through?

I get the distinct feeling Qantas are trying to hide the fare class information.

I tried this and it works for Qantas and Jetstar flights, but doesn't for MH. Example:

This is frustrating as Malaysian is one airline I've had bad experience with flights earning zero SC at all (BLR-KUL for example).

The above booking was made by going all the way to the payment page and closing the window, which resulted in a held booking (I also got an email about this). I didn't know this was a feature - definitely handy if you suffer an Internet or computer failure after getting that far in a booking.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

I suppose you could call up after doing this and ask for the fare bucket of each segment. At least they would have a direct reference with the PNR.

Note, these ghost bookings autocancel overnight.
