Hi, call me hopeful but I decided that I would try to get some Avios points happening so that next time there’s a point sale offered I can buy in. However I just filled out all the documentation online and it told me that I couldn’t join from where I live (e.g., Australia). How do people get around this please?

Did I do something wrong? If so please advise? I see Ms Tam is a moderator and I am clueless so now I’m concerned.
You have done nothing wrong at all. @Hvr just reached out as he knows I am a BAEC member.

BA do not permit AU or NZ addresses when joining. I was a bit clumsy when I joined and misspelt Australia. It seems I typed in a European country name that comes close. Oops.

Or you could find a friend who lives anywhere but AU/NZ and use their address.

Oh, and 'Jessica' will do, not 'Ms Tam' ;)

When I joined BA I also reach to others in this community for advice. Thanks to some "extended family" I now have a second home in Scotland.

Ye gods, when Scotland gains independence and hopefully the English get a vote this time I am sure BA will kick those out with a Scottish address. :p (If not Griselda will be writing a strongly worded letter to Harold Wilson, or Ted Heath......or whoever the current prime minister is!! :p )

As an aside the BA scheme has been highly advantageous to me, gold for life (QF Platinum for life equivalent) is more easily attainable - four and a half years for me :D, and even after a slight devaluation Avios are very good value spent on QF internal flights.

You are probably aware that you need to get flights in on BA flight numbers/metal (I never remember how many etc because I normally have 50 or 60 BA flights a year!!) but other than that it is a mighty fine program.

I used my friends' address in The Netherlands. As with many companies these days, most things are done electronically. I don't think my friends in The Netherlands have ever received any correspondence for me. You could use any address you like provided it is not in Aus or NZ.

One way to get a UK address, and you get to help an environmental cause, is to 'gain' yourself a Scottish Title - ignore what that @TonyHancock chappie said.

Sign up to Highland Titles (Highland Titles | Become a Laird, Lord or Lady of Glencoe), get yourself the right to a square foot of land (MrsK pictured standing on our estate) and use their office address. And you can select 'Lady' from the drop down titles when setting up a Qantas booking.

That is a given on just about any thread :D

I hadn't thought of that. Quite clever indeed!

I have one of those Scottish titles (a gift from a friend who obviously recognises class when she sees it) so I may have to update my address and add my title.

MrsK tried to use her rightful title on a credit card application, but unfortunately they didn't accept it. She has managed to use it on a few Qantas bookings with Lady MrsK on her boarding pass, and did get odd looks as she boarded a Dash 8 out of Canberra - the staff seemed to be thinking, "... if she's a Lady, what is she doing on a Dash 8?"

I really need to do this. the alternative is to go full on Kind Hearts and Coronets*, given I am the youngest son.

*One of the finest films ever made, clever, witty, and outrageously funny in parts. Alec Guinness is quite exceptional but Dennis Price matches him all the way through and I just dare you not to fall in love with Joan Greenwood!^
^ Well if you are male and like women or if you are female and like the husky voiced temptress. Do I need to add something for trans, never quite sure these days, it is so complicated, nevertheless Joan Greenwood as Sibella is simply gorgeous.

A classic movie - it was on here just last year. It kept you guessing right up to the end

Thank you everyone for the informative and hilarious responses. Tally ho and all old chaps, I'll try to find an address in a different colony. @JessicaTam, do you think that your card is skulling around somewhere in Austria? Seriously, did you ever receive one? TIA

Why *does* BA still prevent this still? The QF/BA tie up is long gone - may have been a reason prior?

Slightly OT, but how many, if any, other airlines have this silly rule?
