I'm soon flying business for the first time, PER-MEL early morning (767-300). I may not fly business again for a while, and I'm sure I'll be like a kid in a theme park, but how can I make the most of the experience? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

if you don't have to be sober on arrival, i'd be trying to see how many bloody mary's one could sink on that sector

Sit back and enjoy he ride. And then start working on ways to never fly Y again :-)

josho9 if you find the business class lounge in Perth please tell us all as it seems to be missing.
I think the plans for that lounge are hidden under the 787 plan for PER-LAX.
Enjoy the run to MEL by getting a newspaper and a nice breakfast being careful not to splash any of it on your clothes as we don't do that in business class!
Spend about 3 hours of the flight making plans about never going back to discount economy by becoming a frequent flyer point accumulater.

I'd try moving to a lunch flight. Meal services for lunch/dinner are much better than for breakfast imo. They offer pre-meal drinks, wine with the meal, desserts. It's just a better experience.

and I'd try changing it to an A330 flight...

As for making the most of it, well I still remember my first flight at the pointy end... Really all there is to do is sit back, relax and enjoy the ride, and realise you have ruined travelling in Y for yourself for the rest of your life...

See the thread "Qantas J cabins rated" as it is very good for picking which plane to book.

Get there early to go find your seat and explore all the comfy surrounds of J :) have fun!

Unfortunately I don't have any choice on timing, otherwise I'd consider changing to the 10:50 QF772 (A330, lunch).

I'm planning to check out the club (pub?) lounge -- does AFF have a lounge 101 guide? I couldn't see one in the Airport Lounges forum.

Even with the dislike towards the newest 330 "J" seats?

I'd go Dreamtime 767 over EBP/O 330 J seats.

Unless you are CL, there is only one lounge in Perth. Head up the escalators and you are there.

Not sure about domestic J.

The amenities pack in QFi was a tad underwhelming to be perfectly honest with you.

No souvenirs domestic J on that route unless you "souvenir" the headphones.

The lounge at Perth shouldn't be too busy at that time as the bar isn't open yet.

Enjoy the ride, but be warned, once you know what goes on behind that curtain, it's hard to sit in Y.

No amenities pack in J on QF10 on Sunday night either, so maybe they are being "enhanced" out of the international J product too.

I've never ever had an amenity kit on QF transcon (PER-MEL/SYD/BNE).

Unless you souvenir the contents of your plate (and of course, I do not recommend theft) there's nothing given no. I know some long haul overseas carriers give you little mementos but the days of that are slowly fading with the accountants trimming things away.

It's a nice way to travel, and QF J Domestic is widely regarded as one of the best domestic business products in the world (fly 'first' class in the USA and you'll see what I mean, with the exception of the 3-class SFO/LAX-JFK services that some carriers offer).

Of course if you can manage PER-SYD, you can get the 747 in a Skybed, but no amenity kits or the like still. That's strictly long haul domain.

The accountants only look to cut costs because the marketers tell us that if we don't slash prices then we wont sell tickets. As an accountant I don't wake up in the morning thinking "what can I slash and burn today"...

Actually, the lounge can be quite hectic early morning on weekdays.
Oftentimes such that I would just have a quick OJ and then retire to the relative peace of the boarding gate.
Alternatively, get there very early and at least secure a comfy chair and table.

I got two on Monday night, a sdid most pax. Lightly loaded J.
