How to prevent AVIOS from expiring

You could go through and check your Avios transactions and see when the last one was

Yes, can definitely do that but from reading Flyertalk and others is seems some transactions don't actually work in resetting the date and there is no obvious way to work out which ones don't.

I transferred in some Marriott points which I think will reset the clock but cant actually see my expiry date. Any clues on where you can see this?

From personal experience TF Marriott pts to BA Avios extends your miles for 3 years :)

If the worst came to the worst, you could always book a cheap intra-Europe reward flight, with the minimal cash option, and then cancel for a full refund of your avios. Of course, the cash component will be forfeited, but that could be as little as £1.

Well, that's assuming you have enough avios to do this.

I hope that's not the case because I just bought some books for friends in the UK to keep my Avios alive.

Don't you get a cancellation penalty fee of some US$150 if the cancellation is not caused by the airline?

Yeah, but the trouble is if we don't know which transaction cause extension I wont know they haven't until I've lost them!

Do you mind me asking which intra-Europe reward flight has the 1 pound option? I may need to consider this as I've got Avios expiring in less than 12 months.

And also, does booking and then cancelling(and forfeiting the 1 pound cash option) creates an "activity" that will extend all the Family members' Avios for another 3 years? I have a Family account and each member possess some Avios.

This thread on flyertalk might help...

And this thread refers to the £1 payment option, although it seems it's not available to everyone.

Just reading all the threads.

My points for purchasing through the Avios store have all appeared so I'm pretty confident that I'll be OK now.

Problem is, you are forfeiting an awful lot of Avios to get the £1 deal. A massive and total waste of Avios, unless you have mega millions of course. And all Europe routes will give you the £1 rate....if you have enough Avios to go with it.

I thought Stryker was mentioning that the Avios will be fully refunded on cancellation but just forfeit the cash component(which can be as little as 1 pound). So how comes I am forfeiting an awful lot of Avios?

Sorry if I misunderstood..I was referring to Avios bookings made using the £1 payment option....you are paying for this option using a lot of Avios which is a very bad use/value of Avios.
Of course you get your Avios back if you cancel and that's it.
