How to redeem Etihad Guest miles for Virgin Australia flights

For me the agent checked to see if there were seats available on Velocity’s inventory and then proceed to book it. I think she also assumed Mel-Zqn was the same distance as Syd-Zqn hence why it was quoted as 6,900 points.
I had a similar situation a couple of years ago, when VA had a one off flight MEL-ASP. VFF showed reward seats, I managed to find an EY agent to book it, but couldn't ever get it ticketed and had to cancel. Good luck!

When you say ticketed what do you mean? Is that the confirmation number?

"Booked" means you have a PNR (generally this is 6 characters) - this is not necessarily ticketed.

"Ticketed" means the booking has a ticket - generally of 13 digits with the first three indicating the ticketing airline. (VA starts with 795, EY with 607)

Oh ok I have e ticket number for Etihad which is the 607 number. Do I need one from VA as well? The thing is I can’t select my seat on the Velocity website. It says I have to call customer service. Is that normal?

No and yes. That's normal. You can try entering your pnr on the Virgin site to select seats but will be hit and miss. A phonecall should sort it.
