How will I stop off in Bangkok?

On my way to Europe I used to stop off in Bangkok for a few days. With Qantas flying via Dubai in future, how will I be able to attend to my business and stop over in Bangkok? Will I need to fly Thai, in which case I will not earn QFF points or will Qantas still fly the SYD-BKK-LHR route?

Qantas will still fly to BKK, but if you are chasing OW points etc., you will have to continue on to LHR with BA or another OW carrier.

To make it more annoying, QF have changed from B747 to A330's on SYD/BKK route. A very unpleasant aeroplane in my opinion. I miss my Jumbo!!

QF are refurbishing their Asian bound A330's, which will include lay flat beds in J, and upgrading their IFE systems, so will be as good as the old B744's once on board !

Qantas will keep flying to BKK. Emirates fly to BKK to DXB, if Qantas offer a codeshare on that flight you could take that to DXB then catch a Qantas flight to LHR.
 
Qantas ceased flying all the way to LHR from SYD via BKK earlier this year, at the same time as BA stopped flying all the way in the other direction. Both airlines now turn around in BKK. They have since just codeshared on each others' flights.

The latest utterings from Qantas in its ACCC submission indicate that BA 'may' continue to codeshare QF flights and that QF 'may' still codeshare on BA flights out of SE Asian ports including BKK. At least you get an (elderly) BA 747 on BKK-LHR.

BA will have gone from having more than half a dozen options to get pax to Australia via SE Asia earlier this year (including 3 of their own flights via SIN, BKK, HKG) to only one flight of their own (LHR-SIN-SYD) plus whatever codeshares remain.

BTW, EK flies SYD-BKK (and then onto Dubai) ... so you could go the long way to reach LHR (Great Circle Mapper suggests about an extra 5% or 500 miles point-to-point for SYD-BKK-DXB-LHR) or other points in Europe.

Unfortunately BKK/HKG and to a lesser extent SIN are collateral damage of poor Qantas management.
 
Since you didn't mention where in Europe you'll be, you can also go via AY HEL-BKK as well. No F if you're that way inclined, but I enjoyed both the Y & J product none the less.

Also advantage I discovered is that the AY flight, in my experience arrives at BKK at a rather non-busy time of the day, lines where pretty short when I went throught!
 
Would a travel agent still be able to book SYD - xBKK - LHR on QF/BA?

As long as there was a published fare which included those options then yes. Depends what fares are on offer really.
