How will QF compete against DJ with domestic J flatbeds from MEL?

the 'domestic' product has 2 variations on qf....and when virgin begin flying their new a330s they will also have 2 variations (until they 'retire' the ex-emirates a330's) so BOTH carriers will offer inconsistent seating!

Technically it has 3. There are regular scheduled 333 ops between PER-MEL.;)

QF A330 (Dom config 2-3-2) - l think the J seating is more like Y+ :(
yes it is the international Y+ seat..and pax love it and manage to sleep in it quite well over a 14hr sector...yet we poopoo it for a 4-5hr domestic flight!... we are truely spoilt as domestic pax in oz!! (see numerous other threads on this subject)

Yes, we are spoiled here in Oz (but we do pay for it, $1500 upwards - one way:shock:, JASA/upgrades different).
However, I just wish QF were consistent with the A330's. I try to book the A330's when doing trans-pac sectors (over the B767/B737) and hope not to snag to 2-3-2 versions...

How many QF A330's (with 2-3-2) are in service?

My two bits is that Virgin need to add Flat beds for all the FLY IN\FLY OUT miners that will pay to sleep MEL\BRNE-PERTH!

Interesting point actually, theres a lot of FIFO guys that I work with who used to take the 747 out of Perth back to SYD JUST to get the Skybed and they would use their points to upgrade just to get a decent sleep! Of course on some days that flight has been replaced with 767's and others its the A330.

I agree we are spoilt on domestic routes in Australia compared to the USA and Europe thats for sure, but personally I buy J because it's more comfortable than Y so the better the seat the happier I am! Lie flats on the Red Eye would certainly be beneficial!

I go out of my way to try and get an A330 because the product is far better if you get a 2x2x2 then if you don't well the 767 comes into play!

Miners won't pay for it that's the problem. I'm sure the FIFO workers would LOVE it. But their employees won't pay the premium.

Not necessarily the case - depends if it comes out of the employees or the employers pockets. Some people & companies may be prepared to pay for it - others won't. Just like the rest of the world.

qf have 2 a332's with 2-3-2... VH-EBO/EBP

Accountants getting greedy? "Let's try this and see if anyone notices?"

I didn't think so before trying it out for myself but there's a noticeable (read huge) difference between the 2-2-2 and 2-3-2 equipped planes.

And this was on the AB side of EBO/P so I can only imagine how bad the E seats were.
