HSBC increasing credit card annual fees on 11/3/25

This is a huge change. And will probably reduce the appeal for this card drastically. It was the one and only reason most go for it (there are no bonus QFF points etc)

I just applied for it and got this info In the mail., even as a premier customer , I may cancel it now

Would you think this is still a good card , compared to say the ANZ frequent flyer Black ?

Not sure if HSBC will reverse this rule ..

It doesn’t really compare that well from what I can see.
The annual fees are arguably more because ANZ offers a cash back, and the ANZ bonus points would more than balance out the bonus earn rate for the HSBC.
Back onto the treadmill of trying to find a Mastercard/Visa to pair with the Amex :(

I don't know what they are smoking @ HSBC.

I called and cancelled my Premier Qantas card. They didn't even try to retain my business. I was placed on hold for 2 minutes and was told: "Your card is now cancelled. Have a nice day."

I assume it applies to existing accounts? - If so going from $0 to $399 is excessive for the Qantas World Premier

HSBC is increase the annual fees on some of its credit cards from 11 March 2025.
......and interesting to see their obligation in respect to informing their customers of this change:

"Changes to fees and charges''....."that are not favourable to you"....."we’ll tell you by writing to you or by publishing in a notice."

it looks like their job is done, notice has been published!!!!..... or am I being harsh, because they also say:

"We’ll also give you particulars of the change on or before your next statement of account is sent to you after the change takes effect."

So if I don't see their notice, they will tell me after they charge me !!! Hmmm, way to win customers!!!

Where does one check what their annual fee is? I logged into my HSBC account after reading this thread and couldn't actually see it listed anywhere.

Just finding out on here about the changes to the HSBC Premier MC annual fee, post Mar 2025. Of course I’ve received nothing from the bank, directly…

As I read it, it’s moving to $0 in the first year (from March 11th 2025), and then $399 p/a thereafter (for the QF version). Do we think that existing cardholders, or those who are signed on before March 10th are not expecting to be charged an annual fee until March 2026? Or do we think differently on this?

Cheers,
Matt.

The annual fee is usually charged on the anniversary of your account.

Say, if your Premier credit card was activated on 2024-03-11 , then your annual fee would be chargable on 2025-03-11, and per the notice, the fee would be $199 / $399 when it is charged on 2025-03-11.

Say, if your Premier credit card was activated on 2024-03-10 , then your annual fee would be chargable on 2025-03-10, and per the notice, the fee would be $0 when it is charged on 2025-03-10.

Hmmm… I became a Premier member and had this card activated back in Dec 2017; so hopefully no fee before December 2025, if that’s the case. There’s no way this card is worth more than others at similar (or lower) rates, so will switch to another ahead of this happening.

Cheers,
Matt

amex explorer?
AMEX Explorer earns less. 2MR per dollar and when converted 3MR = 1 Krisflyer mile so you're earning 0.667 Krisflyer miles per dollar spent on the AMEX Explorer whereas the HSBC Premier Card earns 0.75 Krisflyer miles per dollar spent.

Exactly, and HSBC is a Mastercard, AmEx is AmEx, you can't really live off just AmEx without another Visa / MC in Australia due to acceptance.
