HSBC Star Alliance Vs Wise for overseas payment

Hi Experts , I have to make an online payment in VND. When I am comparing the currency conversion offered by Wise and Visa card , it definitely looks to be better with Visa. I am planning to make the payment using my HSBC credit card. Is it better to use Wise to convert AUD to WISE before making payment or just use the visa credit card. Appreciate any suggestions or inputs. Thanks

Your hsbc star card will add its own 3% or so to the visa rates online, check the pds.
You need a card with no foreign exchange fee, in future, if doing this regularly.
Also do not accept offers to pay in your home currency. You’ll always pay more.

In your current case, putting AUD in to VND on wise will come out ahead. My guess is their rates are within 0.5%-1.0% of visa anyway. Then pay using your wise card.
