HSP - A Schoolies Sell Out

Had three nights 21st and 24th Nov and 2nd Dec the street noise was no greater than a normal Friday night on the 21st but 24th and 2nd marginally louder. The schoolies out and about I encountered were friendly (I did expect the worst when I realised it was schoolies).

The kids staying a HSP were well behaved - although one guy in a group was mischievous. The side door was closed during my staying but no hassle for me to walk around to the main entrance. The hotel wanted to create a safe environment by controlling it.

banana0692 I understand your views on how you were treated but why aggravate yourself, the door staff and management by continually trying to use the same entrance and complaining . Were you staying for work in that case I'd message GM but if partying with friends - if so - the door staff realized this and were doing their job. Hope you enjoy the rest of your stay. :)

Regardless of whether the member was out partying or for work it surely shouldn't make a difference? I can understand if someone is visibly intoxicated etc. But for example; No guest at Hilton Sydney would be asked to use a back entrance if they are coming back from drinks with friends.

I agree with you there. A guest is a guest however I don't think the "back entrance" is in fact a back entrance (like a loading dock arrangement). HSP has Four ways to enter. 1) The entrance off Orchid Ave, 2) the entrance off The High Street (which isn't a street it's the HSP mall), 3) the Boulevard tower entrance (also off The High Street mall) and 4) via the underground carpark and elevators. I'm assuming the "back entrance" mentioned is the entrance to the Boulevard Tower lobby which is linked to the main foyer by a railway tunnel.......personally, when I'm unfortunate enough to be shoved over in the Boulevard Tower, I'd much prefer to use the entrance off The High Street rather than commute through the bloody awful railway tunnel, so it possibly depends in which tower banana0692 is accommodated. Irrespective, banning a guest from the main foyer (which seems to be what they are trying to do), is questionable behaviour by HSP, but it would appear they've made the decision to accept the schoolie money and shove them all over in the problematic Boulevard Tower and keep them as much as possible out of the main lobby by directing them to use the alternate entry.

If banana0692 is in fact housed in the Orchid Tower and made to enter via the Boulevard Tower entry, then walk back to civilisation via the railway tunnel, then I'd be bloody ropeable as well! For what it's worth, I now include a note in the booking to say if they attempt to put me in the Boulevard Tower, I won't accept it and will go elsewhere.

It was the Orchid Street entrance that people were asked to use which is the main entrance to HSP. As I stated before other access was closed for me - Sorry to say I'm not going to be bothered about walking a little farther. If people want to have a frustrating stay fine I understood HSP situation and I wanted to enjoy my stay so no biggie for a little more exercise.

SORRY should have written Cavill instead of Orchid -

Perhaps you had a different experience to banana0692, as I wouldn't think the Orchid Ave entrance would be described as a back door. I was in Surfers last Sunday afternoon and thought the schoolies were well behaved. It was really pleasing to see so many young people having a great time without being a menace. The only real issue I saw was the balcony partying well underway at the Islander Resort at lunch time. Recipe for a tragedy in my estimation and given the balcony deaths of previous years, I was impressed that many hotels seem to have exercised control over balcony madness.....except the Islander, which I think is still owned by the GCC mayor.

Thanks for your replies. As the issue is at night the GM wasn't around, but the front desk called the security manager and spoke to them about it who spoke to the problematic door staff. So hopefully its all resolved, I'll see how I go tonight.

In reference to the back entrance. I am in the Orchard tower (closest lift to the front entrance) the side entrance closest to reception is closed to everyone during schoolies and the "back entrance" is where they are supposed to send all the schoolies as the majority of them are in that tower, to keep them out of reception. The other issue is when they send me around the back entrance the staff there think I'm a schoolie just without my schoolie ID as I am being made to enter via that entrance.

So I have a hard time by the front door staff, have to walk around the back to the Boulavard Tower. Hassled by them too, demanding schoolies ID, which having me show my drivers licence to prove who I am, then walk back through the "train tunnel" back to the main area and finally to my lift each time I want to enter my room. Which I was trying to bring guests in yesterday which was very embarrassing having to undergo the whole ordeal while having guests with me and having them interrogated too.

That's totally unacceptable and I can understand why you're annoyed.......I would be too. As I said previously contact HH diamond desk and add "humiliation" to the list of complaints. Also make a point to see the GM as he/she needs to understand the situation and may not even be aware of it.

Usually it's Mummy and/or Daddy who sent them through the private education system.

Then there's usually one person in the cohort (and almost all of them once the prep-school system premiere classes come through) who is 18 and can supply the booze. (Just have to hide it well from the housekeeping staff, or make sure Mummy and Daddy are, or have access to, a good lawyer).

Ummm no, most of us private school kids went on luxury European holidays after year 12. It would be shameful to attend schoolies, clearly a public school event.

As for the comments in the lounge, it's actually just a silly chant http://youtu.be/25WXW1OP-8w

You missed out then, sounds really boring for an 18 year old. I'm trying to imagine myself at 18, at the Musee d'Orsay in front of a Franz von Stuck, yelling "show us your t*ts!"

You may say missed out, I say WP at young age. Take your pick. And just so we're clear, I am no interest in t*ts.

Finally last night I was let in without issue to the hotel, looks like my complaints got through.

Also to the person who said how I was dressed just jeans and a t-shirt usually. Nothing out of the ordinary.

I haven't had to contact the HH diamond desk before? How do I do that? Is it on the phone or in the hotel? And yeah I'll talk to the GM.

My eldest daughter was private school and attended schoolies in Surfers. Mind you she did have the Hilton (which is why I know they were blacking out schoolie weeks to general bookings on-line). She also had a two bedroom apartment by herself (well as far as we know) but suffice to say, I still retain my diamond status and it was not retired for conduct unbecoming!

Son is also private school and is dead keen to attend schoolies in Surfers next year. Now he is one that I worry about, all bravado but no brain strain.....(the t*t chant may get a workout).

Youngest daughter is a way off schoolies yet and is still angelic but may transform into a hideous monster at any tick of the clock!

'Tis why I'm greying quicker these days!

I graduated (a private) high school 4 years and didn't go to schoolies, based on my own choice (other than a weekend on my own in Sydney)

As long as schoolies are well equipped and have their whits about them I don't see a reason it should be a dangerous week ( or however long it is)
It seems to be the irresponsible few who spoil it for the rest, as is the case with many things.

All that money and no sense?

We didn't pay extortion rates either. We have been known to book into HSP just for some time away and similarly, the rates for our daughter were reasonable. Last Sunday, +1 and I were catching up with old friends in Surfers and may have needed to stay o/nite so I checked Hilton rates and they seemed OK. I'm not sure how they determine who a schoolie is and who is not.

Even worse, as a 22 year old, they may think that you're a toolie, rather than a schoolie. :( Not a good look being denied entry through the front door though.

I reckon they are better of in Surfers than say Bali. At least in Oz you know there is a general attempt to enforce RSA and there is medical assistance in at hand. You have to wonder about insurance issues o/s when these kids are heavily inebriated.

I agree totally.
