Hyatt adding CC surcharge?

While I agree to an extent, I do have an issue with business that embed the use of credit cards into their business processes (in the case of hotels wanting to swipe you card for a hold at check-in), and then want to charge you for using them.

Oh sure. I'm not going to argue for even a moment that the use of CC's vastly benefits the hotel business model, it certainly does, in a similar way CC's benefit the rental car business, another example of rife and silly levy/cost recovery figures added to the final price. I guess I'm saying I don't ultimately care about the percentage added to a hotels costs that is passed on to me. I don't, for instance, really care what margin they add internally to their labour costs.

What I care about is that I don't want all this rubbish exposed to me as the customer. Just give me a single figure, which is the real cost of staying per night. Don't add other surcharges and levies which do nothing but obfuscate the real retail price.

Being reported on Flyer Talk that Sheraton on the Park, and it seems the Starwood chain in Australia, will be applying a 1.5% surcharge on credit cards from January on. :(

Looks like they are all doing it. Booked a mirvac and an iHG hotel recently and both warned me of 1.5% added to the bill. It's price gouging and they're all in on it! I guess if one gets left behind, there's going to be 1.5% revenue off their bottom line! It's a racket - They must be price fixing! ;)

Same for Hyatt Regency Perth, however 'does not apply to prepaid bookings' !

Let them maximize, that means I will maximize as well. Starting at the Lounge as well as if there are the slightest issues with the room. Might come them more expensive to compensate eventual issues...
