Hyatt Regency Perth will close its doors after 36 years, announcing it will no longer operate as a hotel or be affiliated with the Hyatt brand.

In a statement on Monday, Tuan Sing — the parent company of Hyatt Regency Perth — announced it would cease operations as a hotel after August 31.

The hotel is actively working with Tuan Sing to support guests and customers with affected bookings and exploring opportunities for associates with onward job opportunities.

“We extend our sincerest gratitude to our team, guests, customers, partners and the broader Perth community for their loyal support and patronage, which has laid the foundation for our success over the past three decades,” Hyatt Regency Perth general manager Thiva Kesavan said.

“It is with much regret that Hyatt Regency Perth will cease to operate, but we are grateful to have had the privilege to serve and care for all who have come through its doors.

Just adding, since this wording is a big ambiguous, it looks like the plan is for it to be reflagged (not closed/rebuilt as something else):
The Property will be repositioned and rebranded to commence business following termination of the Hotel Management Agreements.

Just dropped in there yesterday to buy a coffee to keep my Hyatt points active.

It used to be one of the best hotels in Perth and one of the few large venues for weddings etc. It's now considered out of the way and a bit run down with many much nicer wedding venues.

Was one of my favourite hotels - spent hundreds of nights there. Some great staff over the years. Many ups and downs. Funny how some hotels you just connect with. Must be the faded but enduring architectural symmetry from my childhood era!

Was sad to see its slow decline however. Will be missed and even harder now to retain status with WoH in Australia. 😞

Was it always a Hyatt. It was the hotel used by the QF pilots for many years...until we were enhanced.

Should also be noted the same Singaporean company owns Grand Hyatt Melbourne.

Only other hospitality interest is Opus Bay integrated development in Batak, Indonesia.
So no obvious house brand to reflag to.

So sad, we loved this hotel though it got really old over the years. Management had promised a big refurb several times which never came so I suspected that they must have stingy owners.

Will probably get re-branded without any refurbishment as some Accor hotel which is what usually happens. Pullman or something similarity awful. Unfortunately leaves yet another big hole in Hyatt’s map, besides Adelaide and pretty much Brisbane as that Regency there is even way worse than the Perth one could ever be. Sad times.

You might be into something. It could do worse as a Sofitel but it’s not exactly the Paris end of Perth. That would be T3 and non-stop flights to CDG… 😉

I’m glad I am not the only one who thinks the same of Accor and their empire of ‘soul-less’ hotels across Australia … countless ex Hyatt, Hilton, Marriott / Starwood - all now rebranded and devoid of any character.

Budget and mid range hotels across all brands are generally “cookie cutter” models. Some regular business travellers possibly like that - they know what to expect and where the power points are.

Yes, if you’re dropping $500+ a night outside of the US* you might a bit of character.

*You’re lucky to get a Motel 6 in the US for that at the moment….😳

My exact thoughts. Accor lacks better properties in Perth. However, location is rather poor. There's nothing down there.

Yet, they built it!

I always thought it was an odd location. But maybe because there was space and probably close to the WACA?

Until Burswood, there was nothing between the city and the airport - so it was probably “the airport hotel” also…! 😂

I think the thought at the time was the Perth would extend more rapidly down that way than it actually did. Well, actually during the 90s there was little development to speak of in Perth generally.

Except Bonds erection / edifice.

Back in the day it was considered the best hotel in Perth, so being a little out of the way was ok. Now there is a lot more competition much more central.

If this ever happens though Ambitious Perth foreshore plan could see Riverside Drive re-routed, but the WA Government is unconvinced , it could an ok location for tourists.

The new name is Residence on Langley Park (I guess it fits with the Link on Langley redevelopment)

I'm more confused.

Staff were apparently told they were going to be laid off on 31 August. If the property is continuing as a hotel, surely it'll need staff.

And the emails I've received from Hyatt don't help with the confusion. One read:

... Should you prefer not to proceed with your existing booking for stays after 31 August 2024, we will cancel with no penalty ...

That suggested existing bookings would be honoured, which itself contradicts the messaging around the time of the closure, that the property was closing down.

Then another read:

... Given we are unable to honour your booking with Hyatt after the 31st of August 2024, we will cancel your booking with no penalty, regardless of the original terms of your booking. We will facilitate cancelation of your booking upon receipt of a reply acknowledging this email or we will do so within 48 hours of this notice should no response be received ...

I feel it's quite unusual for a property that's continuing to operate to not honour existing reservations.

Oh gosh, is that sad to see those pictures of the former Hyatt with nothing at all done to at least pretend a renovation had happened.

Looks like they couldn’t even get Accor to slap a new name on it. Really sad.
