Hyatt Regency Perth

Has anyone stayed here? Travelling in November and looking at staying here. Will be travelling alone, so thought I would splurge a little.

A pretty good hotel as Perth hotels go. Very big. Reasonable sized rooms smallish executive lounge but a nice view over the river. The Hotel is down the far eastern end of Adelaide Terrace and is a long walk to the main CBD of Perth. They run a shuttle van and there is a free bus that will get you into town and back again.

If you really want to spurge checkout any deals at the new Treasury Hotel

Yes that's why you would need to look out for any deals but it is very nice

If room size and space is important then have a look at the Adina Apartment Hotels in Perth. We stayed at the one on Barrack Road and were more than happy with the 2 bed apartment we were given (only booked a one bed). Not a bad location either for access to the CBD and Northbridge.

I stay here fairly regularly. I'm fairly sure it was Perth's original five star hotel, built in the mid-1980s as the Merlin before Hyatt took it over not too many years later. It underwent a full makeover of all rooms about four years ago. The rooms are large and spacious with very nice decor. In an act of design stupidity the power points deactivate when you remove the keycard from the reader meaning you second a card if you want to charge your devices when you're out of the room.

As far as Hyatt Regencies go it's great. There are a number of decent restaurants. The pool area is fantastic and receives a lot of sunshine. The Regency Club, as noted, isn't large but there the canapes are excellent and a number of alcoholic beverages are available. Diamond members are eligible for a very reasonable $15 upcharge to a full breakfast.

In my experience, service is like most five stars in Australia. Okay but not at all polished.

I had a great experience here.

I had a base room booked on a cheap BRG rate and enquired about upgrading to a club room using points on check in.

After a bit of frowning and confused looks while the front desk agent typed manically away the upgrade was processed but the points were never deducted.

The room was nice and large with a view over the pool area, the club is split over two levels but had a decent enough spread to grab a snack and a couple of drinks before we went out.

Even if I had paid the points I would definitely stay again.

No the Parmelia Hilton was Perth's first 5 star.

While rooms have been upgraded, sadly the Regency Club was excluded and is showing its age. Drinks are only severed by staff.

As Danger says, service is OK but can be sloppy. Staff uniforms dirty and presentation could be better.

We have 3 Club at the Hyatt cards in our family so we eat there regularly at the smorgasbord which is lovely. Our sons enjoy Joes so there are 2 places that are pretty good. There is a free bus to run up the street so that is easy. Because we live locally we don't need to stay there but we know it is ok.

If traveling alone and could choose between Hyatt and Parmelia, I would go for the Parmelia. It has a 'cosier' feel than the Hyatt which is large and somewhat lacking in 'soul'. They are at opposite ends of the Terrace but Parmelia is closer to department stores and Elizabeth Quay, restaurants etc. I presume you are traveling soon so pool areas etc won't be relevant.

The Hyatt is a way better property than that boxed in Hilton Parmelia. You get a really nice room often with a view and the Cat bus (free) runs regularly around the CBD.

I have some upcoming stays in Perth so have found this thread useful - thanks all. Tossing up between Hyatt and the Sebel at this stage.

Have stayed recently at the Hilton Parmelia (good but not outstanding); and the Mercure (functional and good enough for that particular business trip - nice restaurant). Keen to try other places next time.
