Oh my God, do these Cathay Pacific television adverts suck or what?

I've heard a few different views about them. The consensus is that they're fine and actually make them wake up and take notice.

They've also been using the ad spot on the BBC website.

I don't mind them myself.

Yes, a little cringe-worthy....and how sardine-like do the J seats look??

I'm with you guys on this!

Also I agree with Mark Webber.

Does she look like a doris!! on Twitpic

My sister knows a Chinese girl that plays rugby in HK called Doris. Meh!

It’s a little cringe-worthy, but not the worst. The other advert is the one where the lady doesn’t like birthday parties, gets on the plane and opens a card, and then FA sees it so sends a birthday message to her screen. Corny, but its that little bit extra.

The guy in that advert does look a little big for the seat though, haha.

Cathay does understand me...

- They know I like to visit lounges, so give me an invitation any time I fly with them.
- They know I really like alcohol, so have an open bar in their lounges and on the planes.
- They know I'm a OWE, so print it on my boarding pass.
- They know that I prefer flying in a better cabin than the one I paid for, so sometimes give me upgrades.

See, they do know and understand me!

I think these ads target a very specific market - the long-haul business premium passengers which, according to most airlines, are only beginning to come out of their shells. I also don't think ads are always as effective in different countries in different cultures, these being a good example. Having said that, I'd be quite happy if the airline recognises my birthday, even if it's just a little card or a 'happy birthday'...!

The worst airlines ads I can think of are the Turkish Airlines featuring Kevin Costner... Took me a couple of times to get it, then once I did, it made me want to puke.

I was on a NZ flight from LAX to AKL two weeks ago and the crew brought out a birthday cake and sang 'Happy Birthday' to one of the pax, then put a congratulations message on the IFE. That put a smile on most peoples faces! :)

400+ people on a 388. QF should be doing it more than once per flight :).

SWMBO has views on the birthday ad. It starts with a work birthday party and the lady saying "my work colleges don't understand I don't like parties"
Get on board and it isn't a party but a descreet message.

SWMBO wants to knwo what they do if the person likes parties. Do they get all the other pax to hide in their seats and then jump out and yell surprise. When the party lover gets on board. :lol

I would probably die of embarrassment if I was that person.

I’m guessing they had a significant other who put them up to it, otherwise it seems just a little too much. I wouldn’t be happy about it.

I would be furious!

The nominator would be in serious trouble.

On Wednesday I was flying CX.I was having one of those days when tunes would just pop into my head. The Cabin supervisor was Dawn so in my head i was singing-'Dawn stay away i am no good for you...."so these ads are not so bad.
