Just a quick heads up that the Hotel Formule 1 Auckland Airport opened for business yesterday, 29/08/2011.
Standard F1 facilities with the addition of a 24 hour front desk (no kiosk check in option) with rates @ $NZD79.00 (will increase to approx $NZD129.00 for the RWC).

Much cheaper option than the Novotel Auckland Airport but not as convenient (the F1 is approx a 7 minute walk from the airport). Didn't manage to get any pics yesterday but as described above the rooms are standard F1.

Walked past it earlier this month on the way to the 24 Hour supermarket nearby (was staying at the Novotel).

It's a good 15 minutes walk from both the international and domestic terminals.

However, the aforementioned (licensed) supermarket is very convenient.

Yep the Countdown is literally across the road from the F1, full supermarket plus wine/beer/etc. As with all F1 hotels there's no restaurant (except for a simple breakfast) or room service options so the facilities across the road are perfect.

Walking it from the Novotel 4 times over the last 2 days it's between 7 mins (regular walk) and 10 minutes (hung over walk). Would probably take 15 minutes if walking with a cane. :)

I stayed at this hotel on Monday and it has now been rebranded as a Ibis budget hotel. Other than the change of brand not much else has changed, prices seem to have stayed the same. Still good value for money.

Will be staying there next month, is it easy to find (esp if arriving around midnight with several F Lounge champagnes consumed beforehand)? :p

There is a shuttle bus that leaves every 15 minutes or so. The thing to watch out for is that it does not leave from the same area as the other hotel shuttle buses. As the hotel is in the grounds of the airport it uses the 'park and ride' shuttle bus. So look out for the park and ride shuttle bus stop.
