Ideas for AFF Gathering #7

Considering I know more about the spot than anyone else? And I doubt I'll make it next year overseas, and I think ZQN would benefit from more than 2 days one weekend, I'll support ZQN, but not for AFF#7, especially as HBA was robbed by OOL last year ;) :p

I know the place pretty well too Sam, hence my incessant flattery of it as a destination. But I shant linger on this and make me look somewhat obsessive. I'm sure anywhere will be great with the AFF troupe :)

I agree - it makes sense to keep the flagship do in Australia, however I don't see why other [smaller] events can't be organised overseas, etc.
I do not think anyone said smaller events cannot be organised out of Australia. But as most people have stated the 'flagship' event should remain where most people on AFF reside.

Just let him know there are some good golf courses down there and he will be OK. In fact the hilton there is very reasonably priced. JohnK would definitely like that.
I have been there for the Kiwi Mainland Do on Flyertalk and loved it.

If it was organised again as a Flyertalk Do then I would be interested if the dates are suitable.

I'm not trying to start a war and realise you hail from NZ, but having read your destination guide to Queenstown, I found it tailored to the high end, and missing a lot even at that high end ;)

Granted, there's a lot to do, and over 20 years a lot can change, but there's also a lot of experiences in that 20 years I've had that I would've brought up, maybe even as a multi-part destination guide. For what seems like such a small town, you barely scratched the surface :p

But no where near the town, and nightlife, with water taxi service ending before the night ends usually, and a taxi on the road costing a heck of a lot more.

Golf isn't too bad I suppose. Jack's Point looks very nice especially, and then there's that private course too, if you can get an invitation.

It seems at this stage the places that have generated discussion possibly worth pursuing are:

CNS
HBA
MEL
MQL
SYD
ZQN

More?

ADL
MCY / Sunshine Coast
NTL / Hunter Valley

Probably give it another week and see if anything else can be suggested :p

I think we might have our short list now... but let it for another week to open suggestions - why not. :)

The thread feels like it's taking a turn like the political campaigning part of an election (i.e. after the candidates have been nominated). :)

Ouch! Good thing i've put my claws away for the night. Such feedback would've been gladly received at the time of writing Sam!

So that's one vote for ZQN, and one vote against?

How about a nice game of rock, paper, scissors, lizard, Spock?

I assumed munitalP would have posted before he went on business, but assume SYD or MEL would have been his choices ;)

I vote for ZQN for a longer period than a weekend, maybe 4 days, with better recommendations than the Hilton (unless you're really into plane spotting, in which case the Cru Wine Bar balcony is very useful... which means the Hilton is basically the ZQN airport hotel now!).

Well, been a while and no more suggestion. What say we move onto polling?

Not that there is any great hurry, but anyway a quick hunt through found (and IIRC polls are limited to ten, so its a nice number)

ADL
CNS
HBA
MEL
MQL
SYD
Longreach
MCY / Sunshine Coast
NTL / Hunter Valley
ZQN

(or maybe we should work out a date first?)
