I continue to look in vain. Problem is, my birth certificate extract is somewhere in storage (also from the move).

That's off-site storage I take it?
You didn't put your passport with your birth certificate?

No - I had to show it when I started my new job just after I moved (but not unpacked). Everything was already in storage by then except what I was going to use/put in my new room.
I am currently pulling everything out of my chest of drawers (clothes) and shaking them - currently quite a nice pile.

I used to have a shelf just of my spare bags and wallets that I would match to what I was wearing. All in storage. I only have 2 now and use none of them. How the world has changed me.

It is 1.43am and I just found my passport.
Before I curl up and sleep the sleep of the dead...
I had woven it into the bottom (underside) of my makeup/haircare baskets. As such when I lifted the basket up days ago looking for it, I didn't see it. I only found it because I dropped the basket and it landed upside down.
Going late night shopping and buying a safe tomorrow night.

Bunnings sell cheap safe's, from memory for about $50

Can bolt it to the floor, and it's not fire proof, but it's a good safe spot and it's hidden in my house where you wouldn't expect a safe to be

Have had it for 4 years so far, and only thing I have had to do is replace the batteries as it's a keypad code safe

I went to Bunnings last week to buy a safe and two staff knew they sold them but didn't know where they were in the store. They seemed quite surprised that I decided I buy one at Officeworks instead. But we'll find them they cried as I walked away.

Wow. You really did have it packed away securely. That was my next guess as to where it was ... but I had already thought, "Nah, you'd have already checked there - it's such an obvious location "

The gods must've realised it was your birthday and helped you out, but great stuff Tae!

I'm familiar with sewing extra pockets on backpacks, or the insides of them, to hide valuable items but I've never heard of the technique of weaving something on the underside of baskets or the like.

I've always worked on the principal of standardisation. Passport into Victorinox holder, holder into travel bag, and when home into safe.
No thinking involved.
