IHG and HHonors points preference... VA points or hotel points?

As per the title...

I'm SG with and have received comp. gold IHG membership and status matched to Hilton gold. I only travel a bit with work.. 10 nights a year?

Should I select my points earn preference as Virgin or as hotel points?

What is the best value? What are other people out there doing ?

With IHG you either earn with IHG or don't include your IHG number and earn Velocity points instead. Personally I would rather have IHG points as it is quite easy to accumulate IHG points with the various promotions.

With Hhonors you need to decide whether the 2 × spend Velocity points are better value than the 5 x spend Hhonors points. Personally the Hhonors points are not that useful to me as I have no interest in going to Bora Bora or Maldives.

Unlike JohnK, I see little benefit in IHG and with Hilton, I do points and points (no airline points) unless there is at least a 2x promo for airline miles (like the current 4x for KF miles).

For an idea of what the Hilton points can get you, take a stay I had at Double Tree Ras Al Khaimah in January this year (I won't mention Maldives or Bora Bora ). 12k points plus about AU$16 a night! The resort was fabulous. Well worth it and the only regret was not staying longer! It's worth collecting points in my opinion!
