My review of the Holiday Inn Resort, Baruna Bali
Pantai Jerman, South Legian

Hotel Group: IHG
My Reward Tier: Silver Elite
Room booked: King standard
Room received: King suite garden view with sofa bed
View: mostly garden with a silver of beach, main window North facing
Perks: traditional Balinese dance performance with dinner (all guests), fruit bowl (welcome amenity), late checkout subject to availability and 20% off dining (silver and up)

You have two separate choices of Holiday Inn property at this location. Beachfront is the Holiday Inn Resort, a larger property with a feature front lawn and direct beachwalk access. Behind it is the budget-conscious Holiday Inn Express, a taller modern building with a rooftop pool overlooking the resort and the beach. I wanted the resort feel and proximity to the beach for this short stay before moving onto another property

Room
I actually wanted to book a room with 2 single beds for me and old man anemone, but that room type was not available when I booked through the IHG app. Instead the fold-out sofa in room was kindly made up into a second bed. However it was firm as; good for one night but had this stay been longer I would have asked for a mattress topper. Hard and soft pillows were available and embroidered on the pillowslips. The king suite included a walk in robe and a bath tub. Shower head and water pressure was a little underwhelming. Minibar was empty on arrival

Food
There are 2 restaurants on site. Free buffet breakfast was included and was substantial with several stations: a south asian (Indian curries), north Asian (noodle soup, wantons), western (bread, fruit, eggs, muesli etc), a waffle and pancake station, and south east asian (Bali style) options

Amenity
Pool was a tad on the warm side, with a swim up bar, basketball, water polo and volleyball nets. Substantial front lawn included soccer nets and private dining pagodas. A weekly timetable of kids activities
Access was very centrally located. An idle walk along the beach north to Seminyak past the tourist hotspots of Kuta and Legian will take you about 1-1.5 hours

Interesting to note (but had no impact on my stay) these properties were previously part of an asset seizure involved in the corruption charge of a local tycoon
