IHG Hotels that recognise status

Hotel: InterContinental Perth City Centre
When: January 2023
Status: Diamond Ambassador
Rate: $263/night
Booked: 2 Double Beds Classic City View
Received: 2 Double Beds City View Lounge Access (lounge access was not provided, as is their right under the T&Cs, but otherwise considered a two-category upgrade)

Request for 10am early check-in was honoured, which we appreciated considering we saw other guests hanging around closer to 3pm waiting for their rooms. Check in agent was lovely, despite wearing a trainee badge she was well across the hotel's features and IHG Rewards / Ambassador benefits. No welcome letter / fruits or anything provided. Took breakfast as the Diamond amenity.

Housekeeping and evening turndown were both excellent and on-time, something I find a lot of hotels are struggling with in the post-pandemic era. Breakfast at Ascua was really good, still a great range of food although no wood-fired meats as they had back in 2018. Chefs at the egg station were super friendly and chatted with guests while preparing omelettes.

On to the negatives. Stopped by Heno & Rey on our first night to use our Ambassador F&B credit. There were only three tables of guests and despite being well staffed with three servers plus kitchen/bar staff, the restaurant was a mess with lots of tables not cleared after the previous guests had left. All the plants in the raised garden beds were dead, sorry but if you want to be a luxury hotel keep your plants alive or at least get fake ones if you can't maintain them! We ordered a jug of sangria and the server was in a rush and spilled a lot of it onto my dining companion. Got a simple sorry and she pulled some napkins out of the bucket on the table and handed them to us then walked away not to be seen again. Icing on the cake was when we went to pay and were given the incorrect bill for about double what our bill should have been.

Ambassador benefit is a guaranteed 4pm checkout, however when we went to organise this the receptionist offered 2pm. We didn't need til 4pm anyway so I didn't push it and took the 2pm. He handed us the re-coded key cards but then grabbed them back to re-code a second time, as he realised he had mistakenly granted us Club lounge access. Mistakes happen but was poorly handled and was a bit embarrassing in front of other guests, we hadn't done anything wrong and he was making a scene to fix his own mistake. Made me feel like staff at this hotel are more worried about getting in trouble with management than about how their guests might feel.

Still a reasonable experience overall and I would return, but certainly not at the impeccable standard it was in 2018.

Hotel: voco Brisbane City Centre
When: February 11-12
Status: Diamond Elite via the Straight to Diamond promo in October. Technically expired end of December 2022 but as of this post, still Diamond Elite 🙃 (however I have just purchased IC Ambassador membership to extend my Diamond Elite status until end of 2024 as I'm really liking the perks haha)
Rate: Westpac Partner Rate (room was $239 for the night)
Booked: 1 Queen Bed Standard
Received: 1 Queen Bed River View
Amenity Offered: Breakfast or 600 points. Opted for the breakfast.

The building might not be new like the Melbourne one, but unlike the Melbourne one, had more welcome amenities like a little dessert plate, a handwritten card (although to be fair on the Melbourne team, I did visit right after New Year) and a complimentary drink from the café/bar near reception. Status was acknowledged at check-in and check-out. Breakfast was nice but barista-made coffee was not included as part of the complimentary breakfast. Really enjoyed the river views from the hotel room. No wooden access cards.

Next up, IC Adelaide for Mad March!

Can I please check if the IHG platinum status is recognized at HIX Paris as I have an upcoming booking in Apr 2023 and only reason to book HIX was because of the status and my budget limit. ta

Hi - I've not stayed there myself, but no reason I can see as to why they wouldn't? Did you book directly with IHG? This can be a factor, too. Not often a lot of difference between room types at HIX, but you might get a better view or something a little larger, assuming there is availability for it.

Cheers,
Matt.

HIX usually provides comp breakfast for everyone so a slightly better room is all you would expect. Plus a drinks voucher or points.

I am staying in Hobart from 26-28 May and have Diamond status. If I Book Crowne Plaza King Room $319 or use points + cash, will that give me an upgrade to club floor and free breakfast?

Diamond status will allow you to select free breakfast as your benefit.

No guarantee of an upgrade. I didn't get one last time I was there. Free upgrades don't come with club lounge access.

IHG is very adamant that lounge access has to be paid for when booking.
Though they have introduced an exception with the new loyalty program. Stay 40 nights in a year and get lounge access for the next 12 months. I have 40 nights booked for this year though the 40th night is 30/12/2023.

So the upgrade for Diamond members will only be a room upgrade and not access to the Club floor at all?

Hotel: InterContinental Bali Resort
When: February 2023
Status: Diamond Ambassador
Rate: AUD $575/night
Booked: 1 King Premium Club Lounge Access Garden View Balcony
Received: 1 King Premium Living Area Club Lounge Access Balcony (Duplex Suite)

Really, really good stay. Resort was far from fully occupied which meant we had easy access to poolside cabanas and no issues getting a table of our choice at restaurants and the Club lounge.

Would highly recommend booking the Dinner Buffet and Kecak show at Taman Gita. It's on every Saturday night and is about $70pp, great value considering the extensive buffet and high quality cultural show.

Club Lounge was excellent with a lot of variety at both afternoon tea and evening canapes.

Was granted a late checkout of 5pm and welcomed for coughtails post-checkout in the lounge before leaving for our evening flight home to Sydney.

Only complaint would be the poor quality of the beds, definitely not the most comfortable sleep I've had. But apart from that I had a great time and would definitely consider returning should I find myself in Bali again!

Did you find the Voco noisy?

Nope. I'd stay there again (after I try out the nearby Hotel Indigo to compare)
Based on my experience at the Indigo and reading about other's experiences at the Voco, and accepting sample size n=1, it would have to be a hell of a deal for me to return to the Indigo.

Hotel: Hix Syd airport
When: February 2023
Status: Diamond Ambassador
Rate: best flexible
Booked: Standard (queen?)
Received: high floor, possibly a king bed but not sure.

Very, very busy but pleasant front desk. My first uber to take me to the airport cancelled, possibly because of difficulty getting to the location. Next time will just take the transfer bus. Didn't try the breakfast, was still running on Perth time.
