Second visit to this hotel (
first review here) and it was another enjoyable stay. Good pre-arrival comms with an email from the Club InterContinental team noting the upgrades to their evening drinks and canapés since my last visit and a call the evening before my check-in date to confirm arrival time and any room preferences.
Check-in was quick and efficient with two drink vouchers provided and 4pm Ambassador late check-out automatically confirmed.
I had the same Junior Suite room type as my last stay however they have two of these per floor with essentially 'reversed' floorplans of each other and I was in the other type this time, which I think has a nicer layout but not as nice views.
Again it would be nice for them to bring the rooms up to the modern IC standard but they remain clean and well-maintained, a positive change since my last trip was a power board near the bed, last time I noted the lack of accessible power points around the bedside table. There were two commercially branded complimentary bottles of water replenished daily as well as a welcome gift of two IC-branded bottles of water. Turndown service including some iconic SA FruChocs left on the bed. Only gripe with the room would be the small towels in the bathroom, they can do better.
Club IC is great, had two breakfasts here, two evening services and one afternoon tea. On my previous visit the evening service was entirely self-serve at the buffet however they have since updated this to have plated hot canapés brought to the table, on my first night it was American themed and on the second night it was Indian themed. They still have a buffet, slightly less food on offer however they now have self-serve soft drinks which I think was a great idea. Lounge was particularly busy on the second night and they put out some self-serve hot spring rolls and prawns as well which was nice. Drinks service was really good despite being completely full and they even came around at 7pm on the dot to offer a last round. Breakfast was also excellent and included a light buffet as well as a menu of a la carte items from which you can order multiple things if you like, again service was really good and welcoming. Afternoon tea was enjoyable but as usual, the least interesting of the three services.
The buffet breakfast in Riverside Restaurant downstairs was as good as last time, only visited once on a morning when I was in a bit of a hurry. The Atrium Lounge is also open all day with an extensive menu, I visited on my last day to use my drink vouchers and Ambassador F&B credit.
Didn't get time to make use of the hotel facilities however appreciated the great, central location.
Staff were excellent and I recognised many of them from my prior stay.
One thing to note, on my previous stay the Junior Suite room type specifically noted lounge access however they have removed this which I assume means Club access is no longer included. I have an annual lounge pass so was entitled to access regardless.
All in all you'd be hard pressed to find better value for 190 bucks a night in any Aussie capital. Would recommend especially if you have lounge access!
