I matched to IHG status early last year, and have just logged on to find I've been downgraded. My card says EXP 2015. So should I have lost my status or should it have remained for this year?

They had this issue last year. From my exp your status should last for the remaining of the year and the following?

I remember hearing similar, and wondered if that was the case, as I now find myself one status lower than previously...

The response from ihg is that a status match is only valid for that calendar year. Disappointing.

From this blog post it seems that status matches done after October 1st would be valid for the remainder of the current and all of the following year, so this would seem to confirm the status downgrade is correct.

You'd be pretty annoyed to match in September then and lose it at the end of December...

Indeed. Hotels tend to vary in generosity from SPG in about March to Hyatt which used to be from July that the status would last for the remainder of the year plus the following.

I matched in mid-October 2013 with an expiry of December 2014, but inadvertently managed to keep the status for another 9 months by purchasing an Ambassador membership in October.

At least they didn't drop me back to the bottom level...

Probably a separate issue, but I was inadvertantly downgraded to Base (froma VA WP comp) after I changed my earning preference to points rather than miles-quickly fixed with an email though
