IHG to disappear from BNE.

BNE is now Accor city! Almost a full complement available downtown (though with one notable exception in participation in LeClub Accorhotels).

Going to miss the HI BNE, though it was not feeling very loved for a long time (quite a late time to instigate the renovations).

Personally I think BNE would have enough traffic to support a CP, let alone a HI. The mining industry packs in the guests anyway.

Thank god I'm an Accor platinum then (despite never having stayed).

Holiday Inn Brisbane- Rebrand to Traders (Shangri-La)

So no IHG property in Brisbane from August 7- how annoying..

From todays Traveldaily..

Shangri-La Hotels boosts Australian presence

The Hong Kong-based Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts has announced the acquisition of the
Holiday Inn Brisbane, which will shortly be rebranded under the group's Traders
Hotels brand.

The 191 room property, centrally located above the Brisbane Transit Centre in Roma Street,
will be the first Traders hotel operated by Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts in
Australia, with the move following the group's recent 100% acquisition of the
563-room Shangri-La Hotel in Sydney.

Shangri-La also has a majority stake in its Cairns property, and the company said the
decision to fully acquire and manage the new Traders Hotel Brisbane "is in
line with Shangri-La's financial commitment and long-term vision for Australia.

"After China and the United States, the Australian continent represents the third
largest market for Shangri-La," the company said, with Australians also
forming a "key substantial membership base" of the Shangri-La Golden
Circle loyalty scheme.

Shangri-La established the Traders brand in 1989, with a range of properties in major
business centres in Asia and the Middle East to complement its luxury brands of
Shangri-La and Kerry Hotels.

The rebranded Traders Hotel Brisbane will debut on 07 Aug

The dining discount was always handy... Will be a shame to lose it.

Yep, great food and my son will miss one of the original pancake machines!

Sent an email to IHG to voice my displeasure about having no choices in BNE, got a lovely templated response:

Dear Mr. MiLK_MaN,

Thank you for taking the time to communicate your comments with Guest Relations. We appreciate your interest in IHG properties and the opportunity to assist you.

Many IHG hotels are independently owned and operated. Although we regret any inconvenience this development may cause, IHG in most cases does not have control over the decision of each hotel to change ownership. Please be assured we that have documented and forwarded your comments to our corporate offices, where they will remain on file for review.

Once again, thank you for taking the time to bring this matter to our attention. Your business is valued and we hope your future travel plans will continue to include IHG.

Sincerely,

Joed Maestro

What do you need to know, they always take bookings even if its a rebrand, it makes no difference unless its points, which will get cancelled.

Re: Holiday Inn Brisbane- Rebrand to Traders (Shangri-La)

OK thanks Markis, so HI will still be taking the reservation even though it wont be an HI property. I get it now, for some reason I thought that if you tried to make a booking it would divert you through to the Shangri-la website or something similar.

No, its an overnight thing when all of a sudden it changes, Traders have a temporary office in Roma St next door at present full of boxes of mouthwash etc!

i am not really in love with the HI over there. went there few days ago, and got really annoyed by the noise from the train station and the window noise. could not focus on my work at all. i guess i am really sensitive to the noise then.

Agree with you on the Accor bit...and that may also explain why THE IHGs and SPGs left the city!!!
