Is there a trick to knowing when the flight is ACTUALLY boarding?

Unfortunately my last 3 flights in a row I’ve left the lounge because there was a boarding announcement, get to the gate and it’s either no plane at all, the previous people are still coming off so at least 20 mins away from boarding, or wait a while and finally crew walk past (so not even close)

I already check Flight Aware for inbound plane. QANTAS app, plus the boarding screen.

Is there some trick to solving this? I don’t care about the delay really, leaving the lounge and standing around uselessly because there is 0 chance of the plane ever leaving on time is annoying.

Seems QANTAS app has push notifications, are they accurate (I.e. linked to boarding system not simply looking at time). Maybe I should wait for those and ignore everything else. This has been over the span of a few years so unsure if the current app has accuracy it didn’t before.

The app is usually pretty good. Flying international, the lounges especially SYD F don’t call until boarding starts. I’ve made the mistake of leaving early and waiting 1 hr for QF81….

Domestic, I’ve found both QF and VA can preempt boarding….

Seems a longer lounge stay than normal as QF139 is delayed over an hour …

Yeah I wonder if I wait until the push notification itself comes. This is domestic, though I’ve had same international it’s a little different, as I often leave a smidge before boarding time as it can be a good 15 minute walk to gate, or in Singapores case require security scanning, not the 2-3 minutes for most domestic gates. Rather than wait for them to go “yeah she’s boarding” before leaving the lounge

Syd dom J for a bit longer

Sausage rolls are out and make a nice pre-boarding snack with little bit of a coleslaw type thing in addition to the cheese and fruit platter that seems to emerge at this hour

MEL Dom J pre CBR flight - pretty sad offerings - (mind) numbing chicken from the spice bar - basically stewed chicken and rice…. And chicken cacciatore and rice in the general area (pretty much the same but with some tomato in it). Bit disappointed with the spice bar as it normally does much more sparky dishes.

I’ve had very mixed results with spice bar in the last 12 months. Sometimes fabulous, often meh.

P.S anyone with a MEL departure tonight id leave early as the freeway from city to airport is stopped for kms. Worst I’ve seen…luckily in other direction.
