MrsClayton and I arrived at Changi Airport 30 minutes ago with a 7hr layover before a JAL 1st flight to HND. Naturally went to the QF First lounge which is the only open Oneworld lounge at Changi at this hour, and the very polite official turned us away as they are reserving the lounge for "our members only" until 7:30, even there wasn't a soul to be seen outside or in ???

Naturally disappointed, as we wanted to personally experience the mystique associated with QF 1st. at the moment we are cooling our heels in the rather tired QF Business lounge until QR Premium lounge opens at 5:30. I'll do a reconnoitre then rather than disturb Mrs and decide whether we wander over there as Matt G gave it the top ranking of Changi's Oneworld First class lounges in mid 2024.

I guess this is just another of Qantas' business decisions that may be cheered by some, but I wonder whether JAL turns QF Platinum One members away from their HND 1st lounge.

Current plan is to continue running our cache of QF points down as quickly as possible, and certainly book next year's flights on JAL before the depreciation.

QR premium is several steps up from QF J so would head there

The BA lounge opened at 16:00, not sure if that is an option?

sorry to hear about your problems with the lounge at Changi. Can I ask you about depreciation? What does it mean? When and why and should I also give up my points quickly? I mean spend them on flights?

If the QF SIN flights are heavily booked with F pax (QF1/2) and lots of QF Platinum+ members, they may limit the other airline flight non oneworld Emerald members from accessing the F lounge until the QF flights start departing.
I haven't had any problems getting into the F lounge while departing on the SIN-HND JL flight, but I'm not sure if that's because I was booked on the QF codeshare and/or because I'm QF Platinum.

Never had any problems accessing any JL lounges when booked on QF flights. The JL lounges at HND are where QF sends their pax. Last time I was at NRT, QF said to go to the Aspire Swissport lounge, I went to the JL F lounge anyway and was let in without issue.

As it turns out, I think we came up with a better solution. QR Premium lounge opened 30 mins ago, and we decamped from QF J lounge and are extremely pleased with the outcome. This lounge is pristine, has ample seating with high backs so you are able to rest a weary head, and a la carte dining. I'll never know now whether QF's Laksa is superior or whether their Salt and Pepper Squid is better than my local gastro-pub. But the staff here as just as lovely as those in the QF lounge that I was permitted to enter.

I’ve only tried the QF salt and pepper squid once before when in the QF lounge in LHR a little while back and thought it was very ordinary. Can get better at our local.

The LHR lounge food menu in the downstairs section is very pre prepared so not a fair judgement but the G&Ts are always great. I was last through QF SIN a couple of months ago and the coughtails plus food was very good and wouldn't be out of place in a restaurant/best of the QF lounges and in my opinion probably better then the QR SIN lounge but yes the QF F lounge gets a lot busier.
