I'm in the VA Lounge thread

Mate just told me $700 to join annual membership. What are the current cheaper ways to get annual membership?

$330 Joining Fee + $420 p.a. if you don't have any existing velocity status

$300 p.a. with no joining fee if you're silver

Pending on how much you're planning on using the lounge, you can get a couple of free passes with some credit cards, or buy single passes for $65.

In CNS. Used Amex platinum card for self and guest but staff said guest is not allowed. Had to show Amex website for him to believe me.

Sorry if I am posting in the wrong place, but just got a question about guesting people - do they have to be on the same flight as yourself?

You are posting in the wrong place, it would be better to ask such questions here.
However the easiest place to find the andwer to your question would be on VA's site here.

If you're asking about the Virgin Australia Domestic Lounges then as a Gold Velocity Member you can take one guest into the lounge with you.
Your guest does not need to be flying on the same flight or a Virgin flight or indeed flying at all.

If you're asking about an international lounge you need to look at the details for the specific lounge.
Rules vary depending on who the lounge is operated by - VA does not operate any international lounges itself.
You can find more detailed answers here although it doesn't seem to address your specific question.
I would use that link to find out who operates the specific lounge and then go to their website to look up their guest policies.

Ah many thanks esseeeayeenn, this is all very new to me my apologies.

With that, I'll be in Sydney domestic lounge Wednesday 7 October about 2:30pm (VA654). Friday 9 October Canberra lounge about 4pm (VA661). Will be posting this in the meetup thread as well.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - I just love Virgin's Hobart lounge. It's so open plan and democratic...

I'm there right now, at John B's new innovation - the pay as you go bar. I can host, it appears, half of Hobart. The vibe is Hobart casual - thongs, a fierce looking mother in law from Glenorchy and some rather mangy offspring (pretty sure they don't go to Hutchy). You don't even have to ask for me. Just ask the nice AFP boys behind security where the bar is and he'll wave you through.

Flying VA out of Tasmania is the best advertisement I know for Qantas

Actually, I err. Flying VA out of Tasmania, Newcastle or Townsville is the best advertisement I know for Qantas.

There's a whole series of ads for Alan Joyce to run - miserable Virgin flyers trapped in ports without lounges while Qantas flyers kick back in their pub.

On a side note, can someone tell me what happened to the John Hunter lounge at NTL ?

Meanwhile, I'm just soaking up the delightful atmosphere

I am currently in the VA MELbourne lounge flying VA347 at 6pm, trying to avoid everyone as I have a cold that I haven't been able to shake, maybe drinking the wrong refreshments over the weekend didn't help.
