In light of recently changing the maximum allowed dimensions (width x height) of a photo, I invite members to test uploading of photos here to make sure the site is processing them properly.

At the conclusion of this testing, this thread may be deleted.

I tried to upload a photo directly from my phone, that I have uploaded previously directly from my phone, but it is now too large

Posted this cropped image

But rejecting camera images from my android as too large (generally 2-3Mb images)

2.5 mb version also rejected.
Edit oops, apologies I see sam004 noted the 'size' in terms of w x h (I assume pixels??) Can you remind us what that is, please? <goes off to re-check the new guide ....>

I think we are live Guinea pigs, there is no guide

Correct - no mention of dimensions or size of acceptable images in either the guide or housekeeping tips.

Given the subject and reason for this thread, that's rather annoying. Care to enlighten us sam004?? A polite reminder again that assuming certain tech knowledge on the part of forum users isn't optimal.

5.2 mb JPEG appeared to load to 100% on desktop, but then rejected as too large.

Had the same issue.

Apologies, was trying to set the system to allow larger phone photos, while resizing them to a lower size. The dimensions of the photo shouldn't have been important, but it doesn't seem to be working as intended. So I shall set it back to what it was and perhaps test this after midnight.

I wonder how big this image was? And is now?
On Desktop: as displayed in thread: 187x250 pxl - 13.38k
Click on image:-> 750x1000 pxls(scaled to 537x716 pxl) 108.31k

Oops...... Not a "too large image" error, failed uploading a 1.8MB imagesecurity.jpg

This image that I uploaded was actually correctly resized. The original image was 3000 x 4000 pixels and it resized down to 750 x 1000. Unfortunately, there still seems to be a block on uploading large sized files that I can't overcome. It is being looked into though.

So, what ARE the guidelines / requirements for images sizes?

Not above 5MB.

The system will automatically resize the images down to a maximum 1200 x 1000 pixels, which will in turn reduce the file size. The guide has been updated to reflect this.

This one is originally 3.56Mb (4656x2620)
and reduced to 147kb (1200x675)

EXIF data has also been stripped.

I think thats a good result. Well done @samh004
