So it seems at present.
Max upload is 5Mb (this is being looked at).

Full images are being compressed to a max width/height of 1200/1000 85% JPEG - should be about 200k max.
Thumbnail images being compressed to a max width/height of 250/250 85% JPEG - should be about 15k max

Ah, I see no minimum character/word count now :) .

Image above uploaded as 3,888 x 2916 pixels and 2.57 MB; appears to be 1,200 x 900 as presented?

I'm glad you elaborated on that because I'm not sure exactly what the compression was.

With regards to the maximum file size allowed to upload, we think that 5MB is an acceptable level based on the current stock of cameras in cell phones. There are always likely to be bigger cameras and as time progresses this bar may need to be raised (however, the compression should solve issues).

I know that many prosumer DSLR's and point-and-shoots also now have much larger sensors of around 20MP+. These will often create images around 7MB, which would need to be reduced slightly before upload. I think this is fair.

Thank you all again for your help in debugging this issue today.

... and any tweaking with Lightroom etc sends them up to 10-15 MB  .

As a frequent image-poster in Trip Reports, I have no prob with a 5MB limit. Did I see somewhere that its now 10 images per post, rather than 5?

Yes, we now have a 10 attachment limit.

With the thumbnails and the Lightbox when clicking on images, that should make for some easier browsing in TR's.

Posted straight from the phone. Is the EXIF data still visible?

Couldn't see anything in the first image, but I'd guess that's the Alhambra? :p

Thanks samh004 Is it correct to assume that you've set up AFF to auto strip EXIF data from all photos?

First photo is Toledo ... then Alcazar (Seville) ..... then Alhambra.

The gd library will strip exif data by default. It's actually quite complicated to retain it.

I wish we could say we've set it that way, but I think during the resizing and compression it is doing it automatically.

Telegraphing my ignorance .... but can you tell me the size of the photos I posted ?

IMG_5189.JPG IMG_5060.JPG Ok Let's try and iPhone pic untreated to see if it goes right way up to not.

Edit:. Orright! Posting right way up. Hope that lasts.
