Incorrectly refunded points

I wanted to check if anyone has been in this situation.

We booked a one world award business for 2 people (318k points x2).

Everything was booked.

I had then changed a flight (one was premium economy we managed to find a business) for the cost of 10k points.

A day or so later I see 318k which is one tickets worth of a refund, however both my wife and I got emailed the confirmation itinerary with the new details.

Is there a chance Qantas cancelled one booking or have I just been lucky enough that they made a mistake with the points.

I'll probs call them to confirm the flights are ticketed but I'm defo not mentioning the points situation just in case.

Many have had issues with awards and (poor) QF phone agents messing up when asking for a change.
If the flights changed are on a QF partner they may have been cancelled due to non ticketing.
Have you received a new e-ticket? Without an e-ticket you have nothing. The 6 character PNR is not a ticket.

Check, check & check.

When changing they usually refund all of the points and then charge the new lot of points separately.

I don't know why you only got half though.

Not flying Qatar, but I checked on Japan Air and British Airways.
JLA has status: Ticketed
BA doesn't have a 'ticketed' section but the booking does come up with the flights 'confirmed'.

Sometimes it takes a while for them to charge you the new points after a change. Doesn't explain why only one passenger's points got refunded though.

Doesn't matter if flying/not flying QR when inputting the e-ticket. Can show more information
Do JAl & BA show the revised class of travel?
With only 1 refund I would concerned. QF have a *poor* history when making changes to awards.
When is the trip?

Oh yeah you're right it's all on Qatar confirmed. And yes they all show the revised class of travel.

Trip is end of year so we got time.

Yeah that's my concern here as to why it was only one ticket. Im hoping its a glitch that works in my favour. The transaction history lists it as 'CANCELLED - CLASSIC FLIGHT 1 ADT REF xx_xx' etc They did take out the reward assistance fee for both tickets.

I wager this might be a mistake cuz when I called I asked if the origin city could be changed out of curiosity and they had to 'check if it was possible' so maybe they tried to through a change to test it and it glitched out by refunding points but not actually committing to a change, because origin city cant be changed.

Confirmed is all well and good, but make sure there is a ticket number attached. Qantas starts with 081-*****
Make sure there is one for each passenger.

There won't be an error in your favour. The right amount of points will eventually come out, unless ticketing hasn't been done properly.

If your wager is correct then your tickets won't be issued and your flights will eventually autocancel.

If you have new 081 ticket numbers for both passengers then you should be good to go, just assume the correct points will eventually be taken. I your eticket numbers match your original booking then the ticket has not been issued yet and you need to follow up. You can request etickets from the Finnair website by managing the booking through there, I find the Finnair ones easier to read.

I had this happen to me in the early days of Covid. I had not experienced it before and I have cancelled/ changed bookings for 2 or 3 many times before and since and and normally all points come back at the same time. I cannot find my post and from memory @serfty chimed in and advised that this 'was/ is' a known issue and randomly comes back. When it happened to me I called QF and the points were back in my account within an hour or two.

Did you end up getting to the bottom of it? Had the exact same thing happen, with an updated e-ticket and Ticket Number

They never took it back! I've used those points and I'm literally at the gate waiting for my next batch of first class flights c:

I'd recommend holding onto the points thought just I case like we did. But after our ticketed trip back in Dec the points stayed.
