Not sure whether this had already been mentioned, but I noticed today that those with Gold status now can take 2 x 32kg instead of the previous 2 x 23kg, domestically. So now it's equivalent to Platinum and better than QP. :)
From the Qantas site when you try doing a booking...
"For Gold Frequent FlyersFrom 10 September 2012, the checked baggage allowance for Gold Frequent Flyers travelling on Qantas domestic services will move from 2 x 23kg bags to 2 x 32kg bags"

There 'goes' another WP benefit. On the plus side LTG is looking better. Maybe they could give us 3x32 like intl ops, but really beyond a certain level you seldom use it except for those in a job that involves lugging various equipment around.

I'd like the benefit of Qantas metal flying to SIN from DRW as opposed to JQ. I'm dreaming of a white Christmas, in Townsville!

OMG they are actually making a status level better and not taking from it.

Makes LTG a bit better

Cue the "this devalues platinum" comments in:

Why? Firstly this is an old change. (by old I mean at least a month) 2. Platinum still has a greater baggage allowance. C. Any one who flights frequent should rarely need to use their allowance.

Good move. That would solve the issue when people move from PS to SG and have checked baggage over 23kg.

Just thinking the good woman can now buy even more items in HK on our yearly sojourn there, she will be happy:). Me, probably due for a receiver update and they weigh around 20kg.

Not that I care, but domestically, Business, Gold Frequent Flyers and Platinum Frequent Flyers all have the same allowance of 2 pieces (maximum 32kg each). Only starts to get different with International flights.

Good news for Gold. Perhaps, Qantas may bring back priority boarding for Gold. And, allow Gold to access business lounge.

Already have that on international flights. Just need to extend it to domestic!

Wishful thinking? Let's believe in QF and hope they're not going to wreck their business like DJs'.

I know you’re winding me up, but taking the bait, I’m not sure how thats wishful thinking. The J lounge is essentially an F lounge, just named J because there’s no domestic F. If all QF’s Gold status members ended up in the domestic "F/J lounge", people wouldn’t be able to move, and the QP would be wonderful for a change. Not to mention you’d then have people suggesting Gold’s should have access to the International F lounge, based on the 2-lounge structure being the same for Domestic and International.

I’ll agree that they need to come up with a better naming structure (read: the same name across each) for both International and Domestic lounges, such that there’s no confusion on who has access to what, instead of this tired argument that keeps going around that if Gold’s have access to an "International J lounge", the "Domestic J lounge" is the same thing… probably a bigger stuff up than Terraces and Galleries from BA!

And I had the same views before I was WP, having never imagined back then I’d get to this dizzying height, clearly I didn’t believe in the power of AFF!

I totally agree that this would solve these problems. When I upgraded from PS to SG I proceeded to check-in to a flight where I had a bag that weighed over 23kg, but less than 32kg. I had to argue with the staff that if I had a lower status then I would not have to pay extra, as I was up until now eligible for 2 x 23kg bags.
I like this enhancement (an actual one) from the perspective of a SG. But from a platinum perspective....
