Just booked a return flight to Sydney for this weekend, and noticed the fees were an eye-watering $42.77 per sector.

The other day and previously I am sure these were around $37. Does anyone know why? Increased government tax, new/increased VFF surcharge? I can't seem to find anything on the Velocity website that indicates any change. This now puts the monetary payment above QFF on such a sector?!?!

With a slightly lighter than expected wallet,

Must...Fly! (and the airlines obviously know it)

Just to add to this. From the e-ticket.

WG $14.36
QR (dom) $21.70
QR (dom) $21.70
YRI $20.00 (VFF carrier charge)

Plus $7.78 GST

Must be a recent change as it used to be around $35 last I booked MEL-SYD Rewards flight in late June. Can confirm it's $42.77 for a late November flight when I did a dummy booking

It changed at the stroke of midnight on the 15th, as I was looking at some flight options then and noticed the price difference. I thought it was some kind of bug, but obviously not. Have tried a few different city pairs with the same result.

I know the government was planning to increase the international movement charge to $70, but I can find no such information for domestic - perhaps not a federal charge and negotiated individually by airlines with airports? I'd be really curious to know what the answer is here, as I mentioned above, it seems to be a change across the board.

$40.46 on QF

Other Carrier Charges - $14.00
Passenger Service Charge - Dom - $10.29
Safety and Security Charge. $6.50
Passenger Service Charge - Dom - $5.99
Goods and Services Tax (GST) - $3.68

I’m guessing VA is charging $16.10 as the carrier charge as all other costs would be the same (and this would slightly increase the GST)

WG is the Australia Safety And Security Charge Departure, while QR is the Australia Passenger Service Charge Domestic Departure.

On a pre-increase VA MEL-SYD award flight I have in a couple of weeks, the WG is $5.82, while the QR charges are $8.03 and $7.41 (so $15.44). The carrier charge is unchanged at $10.

The security charge has increased ~22%, while the passenger service charge is up a hefty 40.5%...

No. I booked a reward seat last night with the new prices. The carrier charge is still $10.00

GST $3.89
Safety & Security Charge $7.18
Passenger Service Charge Departure $10.23
Passenger Service Charge Arrival $11.47
Carrier Imposed Service Fee $10.00

I guess QF haven't increased theirs (yet)

I booked a MEL-CBR-MEL trip yesterday and the total charges was $137.95 (that is almost $69 per sector)! Ouch!!

Breakdown:
AUD 12.42 UO2 (NOTIONAL TAXES)
AUD 14.36 WG (SAFETY AND SECURITYCHARGE DEPARTURE)
AUD 44.92 QR (PASSENGER SERVICE CHARGEDOMESTIC DEPARTURE )
AUD 44.92 QR2 (PASSENGER SERVICECHARGE DOMESTIC ARRIVAL)
AUD 20.00 YRI (Service Fee - Carrier-ImposedMISC)

Maybe I'm overthinking something that should just be marked down to increased costs all across the economy, but @Mattg is there any chance an answer could be sought from VA about this? It seems odd to me that it has occurred on a random date in August and not the 1st of the FY or calendar year. I'm not suggesting anything nefarious, but still, something has changed and it would be good to know what. Of course, there is a solid chance this is all C-I-C...

EDIT: I have been reviewing some previous cash itineraries.

Booked May 2023 for June 2023 travel
WG $11.64
QR $15.54
QR2 $15.54

So I guess the question is, why the steep jump in Passenger Service Charges? Fully understand this will probably be entirely out of VA's control.

Yikes! BNE-PER has jumped from $36 to $55. I guess you could say still better than some of the above considering.

Just seen this how now jumped up to $98! How disappointing.

Edit: There was a post after mentioning a glitch and that seems to be the case! Back to $55.

Last week booked reward seat BNE-PER for end Dec 2024 and the surcharge was $55.97! Are any of the taxes the same on any 2 bookings?

UO2 $5.09
WG $7.17
QR $14.33
QR2 $19.37
YRI $10.00

So VA has rounded up 1 cent as well. If you take 1 cent from enough people?

Coming back Jan 2025 and taxes are exactly the same.
