I have recently been looking at last minute reward bookings and have found some absolutely wild routes through North American (some through the East Coast!) on United that appear to be bookable for Asia <> Australia flights.

HND-EWR-LAX-MEL-SYD (~17000 miles) in Economy for 59,800 points. Any takers?

There are some other incredible routes like HND-ORD-SFO-MEL/BNE-SYD or SIN-SFO-SYD that make next to no sense.

The award is priced rather weirdly. It's priced according to the 9,501 - 15,000 mi chart (despite being over 17,000 mi), but there isn't a 24h break in the journey, so looking at the the website it really should be priced for SYD-HND (~4,800 mi), or 34,800 points.

The VA leg is priced separately from the UA legs i.e. priced as 2 separate redemptions when there are multiple carriers then added together.
