Indonesia AirAsia X to suspend all routes from 01SEP

I think cabotage rules do not allow foreign carriers to operate domestic sectors in most instances. So Air Asia Malaysia couldn't fly to Bangkok then onto coughet (and pick up new pax in Bangkok). Hence why Air Asia Thailand may have been used. As i said, it's complicated!

I think we're in violent agreement on this, essentially saying the same thing. But cabotage is not the reason that the Air Asia's and Air Asia X's are different entities within each country (ie if Air Asia Indo can fly A320's between AU and ID, why wouldn't they also - if they had the type on their AOC be able to operate A330's as well. There would be other reasons I assume.

I believe EY it considering something similar - going to use Alitalia as an additional means to boost capacity on the market to AU as it's own is technically exhausted (to major cities at least). I guess if you are looking to make money you have to comply with the rules, however technical they are.
EK would like QF to do the same with a DXB-Germany flight.
How many flights does EY/EK have to AU each week? The agreement allows for 154 flights a week for carriers from each side (AU/UAE) from PER/MEL/AVV/BNE/SYD and another 21 to PER/MEL/AVV/BNE/SYD, provided it is to/via another AU port, and unlimited to AU ports other then PER/MEL/AVV/BNE/SYD. It increases to 168/week in Oct.

It's just a shame the passenger gets caught up in the middle - although Air Asia seems to be doing the right thing here by offering alternative flights - not leaving pax entirely stranded.
Didn't Air Asia already get hit badly a while ago when they caned a new flight into Aus just before it was due to start?

Gday

Having watched the Foreign Correspondent episode last month i think this is blessing in disguise for the passengers who are now having a whinge.

I would rather walk/swim to Indonesia than fly an Indo carrier there.

Pele.

Also suspect the Air Asia Indonesia crash didn't help their cause either ....

I agree with Pele the Foreign Correspondent program raised a number of issues which confirmed my decision not to fly with any of the Air Asia services, I visit Bali once or twice per year and JQ or Virgin provide enough discount fare choices
