Anyone had any experience with this new ride sharing app? Tweaked business model designed to supposedly deliver savings to rider and driver via negoation style system instead of algo’s. I’m wondering what sort of discounts are available - 10/20/30% compared to Uber et Al?

I also read somewhere that you cannot pay by credit card. Only cash or bank transfer.

Well I tried InDrive a couple of days ago locally here in Melbourne. It’s essentially another rideshare app but with the ability to negotiate your fare before confirming the ride. You can pay by Visa or MC in the app.

I played around offering low ball numbers below the “recommended fare” value just to see how the drivers would respond. I found that most drivers came back with ~15-25% cheaper than the going rate on Uber/DiDi for the same trip. I quizzed the driver about the service and from his perspective it’s much better since even with the lower customer fare, he still gets paid more. He suggested that roughly half of all drivers have it and prefer it, and the other half don’t know about it yet.

I will definitely use this service again.

Is the catch they turn up in a Tuk Tuk? 😁

I’ve since used inDrive a few times for airport trips. An Uber trip would normally cost me $65-80, but I’m finding the low ball offers that are being accepted come in at $38-45 (~40-50% cheaper). They are definitely a lot cheaper on longer trips.

This is my new Uber. I’m surprised no one else is using it, or at least not posting any experiences here.

Had never heard of it - cost saving from no marketing perhaps (meaning lower service fee to InDrive)?

Downloaded app but would not accept Amex - did accept Visa - I will try it Fri morn to head to MEL
Whatever the recommended fare is in the app, drop it way lower until it comes back saying something like “that’s too low”. Then start with that value. Most drivers will offer that value if in a common area and especially for airport runs.

Visa/MC or Apple Pay. No Amex, yet. And No, they don’t allow you to use Amex via Apple Pay, yet ;)

How long does the back and forth with the drivers usually take? Is it a 30-second sort of thing or are we talking a few minutes?

I'm thinking of having a play with it, but usually when I use rideshare services (as opposed to public transport) it's because I'm in a bit of a rush and just need to make it happen ASAP.

Most drivers will offer something within 10 seconds although some may take 20 seconds. You'll normally get anywhere from ~2-10 offers depending on the route. For each offer, you can see the car make and model which is cool because if you're travelling as party of more than one with luggage you can choose a larger sedan. You can also see their driver rating.

At MEL airport, two drivers have stated that they use the Uber pickup area instead of the general Ride Share Area. Not sure if this is uniform across other domestic airports.
